62 chevy truck 6 cylinder 3 on tree. Lowered it with the bolts from the torsion bars and heated the rear springs. Aluminum slots all way around. Pulled the choke out when i drove through the sonic parking lot where all the hot cars were by the time i got through it all. I had atleast 1 car want to race me every time. LOL

not sure what the first vehicle I would have driven, probably a 49 Chevy pickup but dad traded up in 55 for an early 55 Chevy pickup, I drove that around the farm, even rolled it when I was 15 taking gas to dad where he was combining the neighbors oats:(

Took the driving test in a 58 Dodge Royal in 1960, it was fairly quick for the era, spent lots of time on a 41 Ford tractor and a 57 Oliver Super 77, learned standard transmissions pretty early.

In 1956 I was 17. Driver training cars were 1955 Chevy 235 3 speed 4-door. Was living with grandparents. Grandpa had a 1954 Chevy 235 3 speed 4-door. Did more learning with grandpa than at school. He'd make me drive across town on all the cross streets where I had to stop every short block. Hated that.

One Saturday grandpa decided I needed some highway miles. Only two lanes there in central Illinois. But 50 miles to Bloomington and rt 66. Got on rt 66 and headed north. Ole grandpa and his dog were havin as much fun as I was. Ended up at the next town north before going home.
Grandma grounded us both! Grandpa was short on talking. He was deaf. But he and I talked and giggled for years about grandma grounding us!

In a short time after getting my license I bought a 1949 Dodge Coronet 6 with fluid drive. After all these years, plus driving tractor trailers for a living, plus motorcycles, I'm still learnin!

A red 1985 cavalier wagon. I had to beat the chicks off with a 2x4 every time I stopped.

Taught myself how to drive a stick on a 78 chevette . On that same chevette blew the trans because while downshifting one day put it in reverse at 15 mph then let the clutch out. I thought I knew what I was doing after a couple weeks of driving. I then converted it to a automatic , which started the mechanic thing. Oh the $150 running car days.
