    Hi
I can't work out how to start a new thread on the 'old toolbox'section.I can only see post reply.

What I am doing is working on a SNAP ON roll cab and topbox, both approx. mid 70's.I need 2 vintage locks that work, with their matching keys.

Would anyone have any old junked SO boxes with locks/keys that could be removed, they would be prepared to sell me? I'm in the UK.

I have one SO lock with a barrel that is unrepairable, with a great 'Montreal Canada' key, original that I want to use ,somehow.Love that key!

I have the other one with a key broken off inside. They all have the SO numbers, but I have had no joy with SO. I really want a couple od old junkers that work.Like in someones old tin of drawer somewhere.

May have to abandon the reusing of the Canada key,but really don't want to.

Any ideas on way forward? This is kinda holding things up now.

Be great to hear from you

    Regards

    Adrian C

A good locksmith with be able to rebuild an old lock he can replace all the old tumblers. If you know for certain the key belongs to the lock he should be able to set you up. I've brought many old ignition switches and door handles/lock to my local guy and for five bucks I get a new old stock key freshly cut.

Have you tried contacting Snap On?
I ran into this problem a few years ago,I sent the locks to S.O. and got replacements mailed back in about 5 days, very low cost compared to a locksmith.

My lock smith charges about $20 to pull a part a lock cylinder and make me key. That's pretty cheap and it only takes him about an hour.

    Hi all

    Thanks for replies!

I have seen a pair of locks on e bay here(UK) . I might get these if the price doesn't go astronomical.

I 've also found a locksmith who is looking into the chance of rebuilding the barrel to fit the 'Canada' key.

It's all up in the air at the moment,as I 've got to see what the locksmith says and see how the ebay goes.

    Thanks to you all.
