Brake Drum Kit Ford 9 inch rear end smal housing

Hello, in my 9 inch rear end I have only the backing plate. The rear end is a small housing. Can someone tell me what cars had this rear end? Because I need hole Brake parts (Drum, Shoes, etc.) and without the car information I dont know what parts to order.
Thanks for any infos.

'67-'73 Mustang/ Cougar with any V-8 engine. '75-'80 Granada/ Monarch with a 302 engine will get you what you want.

Bad news guys. Currie has nothing to help with the small bearing Ford rear end. I just tried to order a loaded drum brake kit for mine and they sort of chuckled and said"no, we don't have anything like that". I suggested that I had the backing plates and maybe I could just order the other parts, but they said no,still nothing. He did say to try Napa and ask for '62 F100 parts.
I also tried to source the parts at Napa (before I tried Currie) using the information from "drive em". No cigar, the counter person says that those cars used 10" drums.
So, the search goes on.

Correct, I am assuming he has 10" backing plates.

The outer diameter of the packing plates is 11 inch

Being a 9" rearend has no bearing on the diameter of the brakes. Several diameters would have been available.
My money is on the info from "Drive em" and the others being correct.

I put 1966 Ford Fairlane 8 inch backing plates and drums on my 59 Ford 9 inch. Easy to get parts for. If I remember correctly I machined the drum edge to clear the backing plate lip a bit.

Many Ford 8", 9" and 8.8" rear ends used the small axle bearings and 10" Bendix brakes, including some early/late Mustangs, T-Birds, '80s/'90s Lincoln T/C, Grand Marquis and Crown Vics, etc. Trying to match all the possible shoe widths, hold down/return springs, park struts, adjuster cables, etc with a backing plate that is of an unknown origin/application is a waste of time. You're much better off finding complete drum brake assemblies.

The 10" Bendix brake backing plate is 11" in diameter.

My O/T 66 Shelby has the factory small diameter 9" with the larger Fairlaine drums that Shelby fitted for improved braking.
Available through Branda Shelby or Cobra Automotive if you need them.

Look at early Ford Bronco's, there are several web sites, small bearings and various diameter and width brakes. Early for F250's also used the small bearing with big drums. Use the search function. I posted the ford model numbers in a similar request 4-5 weeks ago.

Broncos, F100's...F250's etc all use axles with a 5 on 5 1/2" bolt circle like pre 1949 Ford cars.
Drums from those vehicles obviously won't fit a car rearend with a 4 1/2" bolt circle.

The 10" Bendix brake backing plate is 11" in diameter.

You are right, it's better when I buy a complete drum brake kit. The other way probably cost me much more when I buy something wrong. I also have to calculate the enormes shippingcost to Europe.

Small bearing 9-inch is the same as 8-inch (all 8-inch are small bearing I believe). So almost any 8-inch brakes with the complete matching set-up should work. Get all the parts from the backing plates out. Basically same info as V8Bob suggested.

One more thing to be concerned about is the bearing location on the axle, or brake space offset. This is the distance from the bearing to the face of the axle flange, which positions the drum. The three common dimensions are 2.25", 2.375" and 2.5". If you don't have any axles now, try and get one axle from the rear housing the brakes are removed from, or at least the critical dimension from one of the axles, so you'll know where the bearing(s) should be located if new axles are to be ordered.

I have the axle already mounted in a Model A frame. The packing plate on the pictures (first post) is from this axle.

Most are, but there were a couple that arent. Mustang 2 and first year (or 2?) Maverick with the 6 banger were their own animal. I assumed most eveyrone knew this right up till a customer brought me his 8" to narrow and couldnt understand afterwards why my disc brake kit wouldnt work when I advertised them as "8" and small bearing 9".

I bought now a drum-brake-Kit over Ebay from this store "Quick Performance Racing". I also had there a few questions about the Kit, friendli people.
The packing plate is now a inch larger than the old I have, but it works fine. They told me also, when I once need new brake-shoes I should look by late 70's to early 80' Ford F-150.

barobert, call Master Power Brakes, 888-351-8781, www.mpbrakes.com. I needed exactly everything you need and they had it. I see that you are putting the rear under a Model A, so I think you will be OK with the small bearing rear, but take it from me anything heaver, go with the large bearing rear. I let a guy that built and narrowed the rear for my '46 "woodie" assure me the small bearing rear would be OK and the bearings failed after 12,000 miles.

Ford used the small bearing rear axles in many vehicles, including mid-weight early Mustangs, and "heavys" like Lincoln Town cars, Crown Vics, etc. Your bearing failure had nothing to do with the Woodies weight; more likely a bent axle housing.

When I talked to the guy's at Currie and Dutchman, both said too small for a 4100 lb. car. They are the pro's so my new axle was built by Currie.

I don't know why the guys you spoke to would think a 4100# car is too much for a small bearing. The curb weights of some of these big Fords are +/- 4000#, with GVWRs close to 6000#.
When axle housings are cut/welded/modified/abused, they can bend if not careful, and one result will be bearing failure. Just sayin'.

My 70' Fairlane weight was 3700# with small block, stick two people in it and 4100# comes quick and it was 8" with small bearing/10" brakes..I put a 9" from a 71 GT, exact same brg/brks.. ..
