Here's one of my '57's...just found this pic in a bunch of old pix. Don't feel bad for me as this "accident" happened way back in 1972...some fool made a left turn in front of me where he wasn't supposed to make a left turn...I got the ticket tho. Note the color on it...what goes around comes around...

my buddy, Boyd Vandermark, built this 210 post in 1984 as a drag racer. Boyd paid $250 for this in '84. He saw a kid putting $1.25 worth of gas in it and told him that no '57 in the world would get very far on so little fuel.

they talked a bit and it turned out the kid had the bad luck to start working in the Oklahoma oil fields just as they went bust. he told Boyd he just wanted to get back to Louisiana and that he would take $250 for the car to get a bus ticket home and have a few bucks to work with after he got there.

Boyd didn't keep it very long........long enough to butcher the dog crap outta the rear wheel openings though. he was my buddy and I loved him buuuuuut I'm glad his handy work on the rear wells isn't showing......

Since I got the Kustom bug I haven't owned any 55-7 Chevies, but a 57 convert was my first car, and I'd owned almost a dozen in the first 5-6 years driving. At one time I owned TWO converts! Here are some of the ones I owned, 1975-1981. mark_557_1 001.jpg mark_557_3 001_crop.jpg mark_557_5 001.jpg mark_557_6 003.jpg mark_557_6 005.jpg

This was my daily driver in 1967 in the St. Louis area. It ran 12.7 @ 107 and to this point is still my favorite car. It ran a '66 427/425hp big block. During the three years I owned it, it had five engines, two transmissions and 14 rear ends. img074 2.jpg oo bad we didn't know about 9" Ford rears back then.

Hey 4 speed, thanx for posting this picture.
In high school(about 1970) I had a twin to your car, but you know how kids are right , just couldn't leave shit alone. 283/4speed, 4.11's, Hurst, headers, traction bars, etc.
About the same time; there was a yellow/white 57 150 handyman wagon close by that I coveted and to this day, I would like to find this car. I still get very nostalgic about that time period.
Fast forward about 30 years; (2000--2001) back in the house I lived in during high school,
I come home from work and sitting right in front of my house is this all original aqua
painted 57 150 sedan, I just about crapped myself and nearly broke my neck running into the house to get my camera because I had seen an older lady driving this car around over the years(5 to 10 years apart) but never anyone around it the few times it was parked in a lot, etc.
So I get my camera, get one shot, damn, dead batteries, back in house for batteries, come back out, damn, cars gone, never saw it again.
Couldn't even find out which neighbor she was visiting, DAMMIT!!!!!

  22. I was in the minority at that time driving a 4 door but I loved the push back into my seat and the noise from those solid lifters.
Made for a great street sleeper ( except for the time on rt. 2 I went up against a Studebaker Lark with a blown Avanti R3 under it's hood.
Yeah, I ate some crow. My 57 Fuelie Bel Air.jpg

My dad's ol' 57, built by a friend of his. Gasser in 1971, 2 sets of spindles crafted together axle flip perches & Mopar spring clamps , all we have left now is real LT-1 engine, spindles & control arms. I use to see it at local "Dutch oven" as a tot n it was soo cool then it was gold under a bright olive green topcoat n cragars. I begged him not to de gasser it in early 90s. But it was still fun. Few years back sold off some cars to keep the ones really special to us. What a ride! Last I heard it wound up recently somewhere in Sweden. Flux image.jpg image.jpg

Here's an ol 150 post I had 23 years ago. Pardon the painted bumpers. They were toast & funds were fewer in those days. Mostly this is how I got it. I went with previous owner to get it out of woods n it was a "black widow" clone. Man, I told with him to leave it that way. Ohh well. Toyota supra red then was his deal. Had a olds 350 rocket they'd put in it , but what a torquey ride. I use to drive it 2-3 hour trips n it knocked down 20mpg. Flux image.jpg image.jpg

  30. DD you're right. It does look like your old pic. This ones stone stock. 283 power pak and glide. Inherited from my Pops last year. I found it about 25 years ago and convinced him to get it- didn't realize what a good idea that would be at the time! Thanks Dad
