Hey all, I have been running a Saginaw 4 speed behind my Flathead using an Offenhauser adaptor. The transmission has blown and I am wanting to replace it with an S10 T5. Can someone please confirm that the T5 front bolt pattern is the same as the Saginaw/Muncie/t10 and will bolt to thisvbellhousing? As I am in Australia, and we didn't get this version of the T5 , I will have to import one. Thanks Adam
Yes it's the same but you have to drill the mounting holes to 1/2" and shorten the input collar and trim the input shaft.. I have pics of this if you search my threads...
Make sure your S10 trans is 92 or older for the GM pattern. In 93 they went to a Ford pattern. I've been selling conversion kits for over 15 years for the S10 to Flathead Ford. Also selling rebuilt and guaranteed trans. 402-749-1932 with questions.
If you are not up for mods, you can just run a spacer. I keep S10 T5's stacked up on the rack, so I tend to run spacers instead of modifying them, other than drilling the case holes to 1/2", and cutting off the "fin".
I just found this on e-bay . Is this the space plate that I need to run? http://www.ebay.com/itm/10017-T5-SP...-1955-92-CAR-USING-83-92-S10-T5-/321168494932
Be careful of advice from the H.A.M.B. as the S-10 T-5 index is 4.686" and the standard bell housing is 5.125". This is adressed with a Advance Adapters ring part number 716078. There is a bit more to doing it correctly than opening up the mounting holes. Regards, Ron
That one is a little thin. Like this: http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=624631&highlight=t5+spacer Or this: http://hamiltonintakes.com/products/s10-t-5-swap-adapter Should be about 9/16" (0.5625") thick.
This works. I'm the one that sells these. The only advantage to the thicker ones is that you don't have to trim the tip of the input shaft. Depending on application, you may not even have to do that with my thinner spacer. An extra $100 or 10 seconds with a cutoff wheel. Your choice. The '83-92 S10 T5 is what you would be looking for. '83 to around '89 for cable driven speedo, but not all were, so look before buying. All Chevy T5's use the 4 11/16" center hole. If your bellhousing has a 5 1/8" center hole, you can buy an adapter ring that will take it down to 4 11/16".
Hi Snarl, Thanks for your input (boom boom!). Really new to this conversion so all the info I can get is appreciated. I am going to have to get one of these boxes shipped across the world so I want to makes sure its all going to go together! I have prepared myself to have to change the tailshaft too. It that correct? Currently have the Saginaw - figure the t5 will either be longer or shorter and require a mod to the shaft? Adam
