I think what you'll miss is the scenery and the cohesiveness of an old European country. What we've got, beyond a pretty good car scene is really what a Eurpean will see as excess-huge supermarkets, SuperWalmarts and space-lots and lots of space.

We don't think much of driving 2 hours to a car show-in two hours in Europe, you could be in another country or two. I recommend you get a car and don't stay home-get away every change you can. Do a search for PA guys here on the HAMB-there have been some threads-and call us up and come visit.

  2. I'm a NEPA guy, too, just a stone's throw away from Pittston. There's cruise-ins every week at Victory Pig in West Wyoming and once a month at the public square in Wilkes-Barre during the season. Yeah, it's mostly stockers, muscle cars, and 80s cheese, but there's still some decent iron that shows up.
Jennings Turnpike Garage in Dunmore is a neat little hot rod shop, they're doing an open house in the spring with a car show and bands playing.
On another note, you should definitely hit up my buddy's restaurant AuRants. If you are thirsty for a good beer and can't find a brew to suit your tastes there, you don't have a pulse. Their food is mindblowing as well.
Just so you know, I paid $3.19 a gallon for gas this morning.
Anyway, welcome to NEPA. Some stuff sucks here (politicians, court system, roads, Old Forge pizza) but other things are pretty good (space, cheap housing, low taxes, punk rock scene) but that's like any place, you take the good with the bad.
Oh, and try to avoid south Wilkes-Barre, it's been a shooting gallery lately and we now surpassed New York, Philly, and Chicago in murders per capita.
That being said, hope to meet you sometime, as well as some of you other NEPA dwellers that I haven't met yet.
Hmmm, we should organize a HAMB gathering at one of the cruise nights for all the folks in the area.

I said my opinion is PA sucks, never said nothing about my life.
Maybe you don't get out much. In Lackawanna Co it sucks. My asshole neighbor took me to court 15 times because I cut a tree down on my property. He keeps dragging me to court making up lies with absolutely zero proof and fucking me. Yes that sucks.I can certainly say- in my opinion- the state sucks, just like you are entitled to your opinion. Maybe defend your state by saying something good about it, not by trying to put someone down. And the pizza really sucks.....

Anyway, good luck with your move, I hope you enjoy PA and the car scene is pretty good. I moved here from New York and It's just not for me. I'm not trying to bash any of you PA guys.

  5. Sounds like you don't have a Pennsylvania problem so much as you have a shitty neighbor problem. There are shitty neighbors in every corner of the globe.

I'm just a bit south of you and the car/music/social scene is excellent around here. You're gonna' have to drop by Bar Louies in the Mohegan Sun Casino. Some good bands there and excellent scenery if you know what I mean. There are a load of great car events all over the area and Pa. rod laws are pretty decent. Drop by the shop when you get to town. There's always something to look at under build.

Try Old Forge for pizza, or Cara Mia in Dunmore. I'm a former (always) New Yorker. You're not gonna get New York pizza here, but the pizza here can be good in its own way.

And don't forget the drive thru beer stores!

  13. Eh, I dunno, I tried them all and I still think, for the most part, NEPA pizza ranges from fairly bland and characterless (Grotto, Pizza Bella, Angelo's, Goodfella's, all Nanticoke pizzas) to downright inedible (Old Forge, Nardone Bros.) But, I do think there are a few good standouts. Pizza Perfect in Shavertown is about the best oniony fried pizza, Calabria in Dunmore has the most awesome sweet sauce pizza I have ever had, and King's in Mountaintop just about nails NY-style on the bullseye, with an absolutely perfect crust.
But hell, even fairly crappy pizza is still pretty good. Plus, we have chicken wing pizza!

When I was in Naples-home of the pizza, for heaven's sake, there was an offering of pizza with hotdogs and French Fries on it. Really. Sadly trashly-like a lot of the Naples I saw.

Naples only gave birth to the guys who invented pizza. Pizza as we know it was invented in New York.

The word Pizza is just a flatbread. It's what you do to it that matters.

Actually, pizza was invented and served at Frank Pepe's in downtown New Haven, CT. Still there, still made the same way. Frequented by the likes of GW Bush and Bill Clinton-a man who knows his pizza.

It's a fantastic meal and I am really sorry I don't have relatives in New Haven any longer-I might just drive up there anyway.

Do you think Bill Clinton smokes a cigar after he eats pizza or does he just dip it in the sauce?

  20. Everyone speak about PIZZA ;) ... what about STEAK´s?

    Thank everyone for information.
I think Pittston is a little outside from the big attraction, I mean I searched for the next HOOTERS Restaurant or a TWIN PEAKS Restaurant. Everything is 100 - 150miles away.

  21. Have you ever actually eaten at Hooter's? It sucks. The only reason guys go there is for boobs. If you're gonna use that reason, why not cast aside all shame and go all the way - eat at a GOOD place, then go to the strip club.

  22. Guten tag from Gettysburg, PA! You will like it here. PA is a firearm friendly state, don't know if you have that freedom there. Lots of auto events here.

  23. I can´t wait to come to PA :D

  24. Rüber schicken - rubber chicken
Rüber schicken (austrian slang) / it mean - to move :D

Well, you've certainly got a lot of suggestions for places to check out. And no...Pittston, PA will probably not seem like Utopia to you, but despite all the grumbling about the area, it's not too bad (I've lived here most of my 65 years). My biggest gripe is the winter weather, as I'm a winter hater! But beyond that, there's lots to do within a reasonable driving distance. Please let us know what your thoughts are about your new locale, and shoot me a PM if you're going to be in the Bloomsburg area. I always have a few cold Yuenglings in the refrigerator.:D
