I just got my 59 edsel villager insured and registered. The tech told me their computer does not list "edsel" and it won't let him type a name. I said well it's basically a fancy Ford. So now it is on the books as a Ford Edsel Villager

Me neither. My 59 doesn't have that, just the standard sway bar setup...

Here are a couple pictures of my 59 Ranger. It's still rockin' the factory paint from 59! It was a little oxidized but rubbed right out with some (a lot of) elbow grease. I lowered it using aerostar springs and blocks. It's incredibly fun for what I paid for it and the little amount of work it has taken to make it reliable. It gets driven quite often and every place I take it people always come up and ask me about it or have an old memory with one. They are truly fun cars to own and drive.

Thanks! I grew up around these cars. My dad has had quite a few (50+) and I'm carrying on the family tradition. I also have a 58 Roundup! It's getting ready to be put back on the road. That's my Dad's Villager next to mine. His will see the road this coming spring!

I was a freshman in High School when the Edsel came out, and immediately did not like them.
In my opinion, they came out at at time when nothing about them was really different in appearance from the beautiful '57 Ford Fairlane, which is a classic.
They took the basic silhouette form the Fairlane and put a butt ugly rear end on it, as well as a pretty cool front end, but too similar to the Fairlane except for that massive center grill..
Point #2, is that I think they were kinda like a "I am a bit better than you" version of the Fairlane....and coming from a low income home I didn't care for that image...
HOWEVER....as with so many things in this awesome hobby/trade of ours, things that a long time ago used to be butt ugly....now are really cool.
And I must confess that I would love to own a Tudor version of most any year, particularly the first year.
So you Edsel fans have my respect.....as I find them quite attractive now...(Other than that rear end)

I hope to get it on German streets in 2014. And I have a second one, a 59 Corsair 2 door Hardtop Coupe in restoration but no time for them at the moment...

    BEAUTIFUL RIDE!!!

I will eventually get blocks and aerostar springs under my Fairlane - love the stance they seem to create!

Thanks! I am putting aerostar springs on my other Edsel as well! The ride isn't bad. I recommend them. I had a set of two inch drop springs in this one at first and it didn't put it down far enough for me. These were wayyyy cheaper too.

My Edsel had both passenger & stw sway bars.
I asked from earlier owner, why there is 2 bars, he said to me: "try to drive with one, you`ll see why!" Well, bushings were shot, now only one installed.

Personally i like the factory floaty ride. I don't know why every car made in the last 20 years is made to ride like a tank with stiff suspension and steering.

Even if you buy rebuilt power steering boxes for old cars they seem to put really stiff springs in them. One of these days i'll learn how to rebuild them myself or just disassemble a rebuilt one and put the factory spec springs back.
