That pickup looks like a FUN ride And HOW HIGH off the ground are the front wheels on the yellow one!!! Awesome pics!!
THANK YOU LEVIS! Thanks for taking the time to put the pictures up. Now I'm wide awake - that did the trick to get my mind and my blood flowing! Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy
Just watched that CHILLY WILLY , a couple weeks ago, at ST. THOMAS drag strip ,, we went to Canada for the nostialgia drags there ,, it is an awsome car,, super clean,, and running a small chevy with 4 speed, leaves at 6,000 .. he broke a trans that weekend ,, raced his brother nels, that also runs a willys, with a blown hemi .. nels runs in the 9"s, and Danny runs low 11"s . seen a pic of a stude with a glass willys front on it ,, sure fooled me, for a min .. but makes me wonder if i should have sold my stude .. too late now,, why worry ? JEFF
ive seen pics of chilly willy before, but they are all still awesome. i really thinkin willys are underappreciated today, too many people jonesin for vintage ford or chebbys, great pics...
If anyone out there in HAMB-land has a photo of Mike Bamber's "Silver Dollar" A/GS Willys Pickup, I'd pay for a copy. You see, before I moved up here, Mike was my neighbor, and he still has that Willys, stashed away in a barn in SoCal. A number of years ago, he was getting ready to campaign it on the Nostalgia circuit, but some guy was teaching his daiughter how to drive, she stomped on the wrong pedal, smashed into the barn, and knocked the original blown Olds engine on the stand over, cracking the blower case. Mike, disheartened, just let it sit after that, and then life and family got in the way, and it sits there to this day. And I agree, there is nothing more beautiful than an Americar in action. I like the '33 style all right, but the '40's era couples, Sedans, and pick ups, are just drop-dead beautifu.l
Yep, I've been looking at those prices. WHY are they so friggen costly? A basic FIBERGLASS body and straight axle complete frame from a few different folks is in the high teens/low twenty range. Some of the finished products are asking for 80-100K. Come to think of it, I do not see many (any) straight axle stuff selling for that price...just the billet stuff. If one has a spare engine with a 671 blower and a 4 speed and some old magnesium wheels with the tires mounted and some old Stewart Warner gauges laying around, it could be built on the cheap!
Levi's Classic, THANKS for posting that, and the PM offer, as well. I'll be sure and let Mike know he hasn't been forgotten, next time I talk with, or see him.
my wifes old daily driver. was called "ontario george" & raced in a/gas from '67 into the early 70's.
this one was my only glass willys out of the 5 i have owned. it was also the fastest. best pass to date is 6.78 @ 198
