  2. IMO rims need to be black or match the car color when running dog dishes.... need a full shot of the car to give a rim/tire opine.

Thanks for the opinions. I don't really like the tires (they came with the wheels when I bought them) as far as crossbreeding, Am I wrong? ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1384048809.327612.jpg
The tires are 205/55/15 on front and 225/55/15 rear. I'm dropping a 302/T5 combo in it. Still trying to figure out the clutch.

Those stock-looking wheels have four slots which just bug me for some reason. Likely why 'solids' are so popular. Wheel choice depends on what you're trying to impart to observers. Hot rod would be the Supremes, custom would lean more toward flipper caps - both of which ideas have already been proposed in earlier responses. In the end, it's up to you. Don't try to please others, as the old "..some of the time..." rule will drive you crazy. Ricky Nelson had it covered: "you got to please yourself". Nice looking car, and your 302/T5 combo sounds just right for it.

those hub caps look right at home on the cop cars that used to pull me over in the late 70s....but they look wrong on everything else, for some reason. Especially FoMoCo products.

    You did ask....

  10. On the cheap, spray bomb those wheels black, lower it all the way around.

No problem, Squirrel. I'm not a sensitive guy. I wish I had the money to get a better paint job, as now my budget is going to mechanicals. As far as lowering the back whats better? Blocks or modify the existent leaf-springs

I guess most of the crowd dislikes crossbreeding

Not in all cases, but Mopar dog-dishes make a pretty definate statement. Its sorta like painting it sub-lime and putting a billboard stripe on...

I'd leave the rear height alone, and put taller tires on it, a bit bigger in back than in front. Give it a little rake. Since you're kind of hot rodding it. If you were going to shave the chrome and put full wheel covers on it (turn it into a mild custom), then lowering the rear would make sense.

I definitively need taller tires because it rides awful with those 55s. I was thinking throwing skinnier tires on front. I just trying to build a nice cruiser with some power on it.

I'd leave the hubcaps like it is if you like it. It's your ride.

Nothing wrong with crossbreeding. Paint the wheels black and it will be a night and day difference.

  22. Whats your preference if you could do what you wanted... Aim and shoot.
If it were my car, id go some period mags like keystones 14x6 and thin whites 205/75, drop it to as low as sensible

Anyone who calls those round things "rims" needs to go back to the mini-truck forum.

True, something doesn't look right. That's why I'm asking about it. I'll try again with different rubber and color (same as car) to start.

Man, I must be getting old. I HATE black rims & dog dish caps....unless they're on a black car. But then I don't get why guys with newer cars & trucks paint their rims black either. Looks blah as hell and like crap to me.

Since you're unlikely to truly match the body color with rattle can paint (I THINK) I'd spray them a lighter color. Either in the same aqua tone or possibly a creamy off white. Yes, the tires are too low profile for this era car. Yes, lower it but with a slight rake.

Just my $.02, but hey you asked!
