I was looking in my 58 motors manual and the Ford cars got the 223 in 54 but did the trucks get it too or did they keep the 215 until they ran out out of them.

The reason I ask is the trucks did not get the 292 until 59 and wondered if they kept the smaller six until later like with the V8s.

  4. The last 215 was in '53. Everything got the 223 in'54.

I was looking at some 54 to 56 truck 223s and I could probably make one fit my 37 Chevy p/u very easy, the 235 in my 37 has issues and I never had a good Chevy motor so I hope to repower with a Ford six. I like that the 223 has a full flow oil filter and the carb is on the same side as the 235 and looks like a old motor and would confuse some to what is under the hood,I also looked at the international sixes but the carb is on the other side like the Ford 300 six so I am going to look into a running 223 from a 54 to 56 truck and go from there.

I would like a GMC but it would require moving the radiator forward but I spent a bunch of money on my radiator so I am trying to find another six that is close to the same length which the 223 is close,I also need to look at the Rambler/AMC sixes and see how the measure up to the 235. I want to keep it powered by a six but if I cant find another six that will fit without major surgery or my Y blocks wont fit then its time for a 303 or 324 Olds rocket but no more Chevys for me.

  7. I have several 223's if you need any parts.

Small block Ford V8's fit in those trucks very well. I've seen several done that way....pisses the Chevy guys off too.

I would like to keep the 37 powered by a six of some kind but I do have a good running 302/AOD in a winter beater that can go in it when I decide to retire it.
