I dunno, it doesnt look like it would be very efficient because there is no ring-landing for the filter to sit on, whereas the big opening is the perfect size to sit on a carb. The little openings have a place for the filters to sit. Too bad you dont have the tops for the filters, that thing looks pretty cool. I couldnt find anything that looks like that doing a few google searches.

If it was for two carbs, I sure like to see the long-ass engine they sit on, enough room for another 4bbl in between.

Its definitely meant to run two of something on top of a single something. ..if you look at the bosses underneath...the small outboard openings look like they are setup to run studs going upwards...or a bolt down I guess...the center looks like it is just held down with a stud. There are small groovelike areas on the small openings like for an o ring or that the airfilter element would seat on it...

Four barrel flame arrestors are readily available...also this piece doesnt save in height or anything...seems to be mostly for looks...

  12. there is an air filter adapter like that on my v-12 gmc engine but it has two smaller holes for tubes to the carbs.

  15. I think that is one of those wonderful mysterious devices you hang onto, mount on the wall, maybe over the front door, as if it is special and wait for someone to say "Hey, you have one too!".

Until the wife contributes a "Don't do that"....

Total guess here. but my first thought was an adapter to run two of the small Cal Custom "Bugcatcher"style scoops. kind of a "fake" crossram look.

I'm thinking maybe industrial or farm equipment related? Dual air filters for dusty operating areas?

Looks like an adapter to feed two turbochargers into a 4bbl carb. sorta like these:

I'm thinking an air cleaner adapter for an older medium diesel V8 like a 555 Cummins or 1145 Cat????

I don't know about the center spacing, but several manufacturers of manifolds offered very similar adapters for use on early Olds and Stude V8 dual carb manifolds with the original side-inlet carbs, the ones with 90 degree bend at top of an otherwise conventional 2-barrel. This gizmo adapted the two carbs to use the main body of the original air cleaner.

I was thinking 2 carbs one air filter. After looking at it closer the two outer holes are threaded for a bolt . The center hole is smooth as if it slid over a bolt. If it was mounted on two carbs the outer holes would be smooth.
