You just missed the Charlotte Auto Fair fall show and the Goodguys show. All at the Charlotte race track. The is a spring Auto Fair. Also, the Run To The Sun Show in Myrtle Beach would be worth your while. It is in mid march. South of you ( in SC) is the Steel In Motion vintage drags/show (search on here) that is not to be missed. I have not been but it seems to be the ONE event the Carolinas HAMBers get sweaty palms over. I'll be there in 2014!

Pittsboro is a nice little town and close to Raleigh,Fayetteville, Sandford. Lots of car shows around there.
Now y'all have me missing home. I will be back there soon I hope. There is so much there that you can't get here in Oklahoma. I miss having livermush, eggs, and biscuits for breakfast or in a sandwich. Dennis Carpenter is a great place to visit. Stopped in there on my way to Charlotte Auto Fair. If you have the chance go to the Outer Banks great beaches, and like everyone suggested go to Maggie Valley. There are car shows all over the state. Don't forget Mayberry Days in MT. Airy. One thing I can say you don't have to look far for something to do.
