You rarely get out of it what you put in, if you are looking for a profit, sell it now

Pour your heart and soul into it. That's how much it's worth.

it's worth exactly what someone will pay for it and not a penny more... different parts of the country will pay different amounts for any car, and that one is going to be hard to move.

seriously, if you dont intend to sell it, what difference does its present value make?

  10. It's worth seven hundred and thirty four dollars and sixteen cents.

  11. Not an easy sale. There is a reason you don't see many fixed up. $500- $1000 if you are lucky.

Decklids are the same on 42-48 Plymouth 2 and 4 door sedans.
Reattach trim if possible, install grille etc. Make sure all trim is there, if it is.
If it is titled...they're registered by engine number, i.e. P15-**********.

It's a cool old ride, I have a 48. 2 to 3K?! Maybe if it were a Chevy... these are unusual but aren't worth much, you can find them complete and running nicely for 5... I'd say a grand with title as it is. Good part? Have fun with it, you're not destroying anything anyone's going to scream about. The guy thinks it's worth 3 because that's what he's got into it in hours at a working wage, I'm guessing... that's not hot rod math that ever works. Cool car. Fantastic gift. Generous guy. Build it & drive it and stop caring about the numbers except for filling the odometer full of fun times and trips.

If the title is in your name only, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Don't forget, we've all seen the Craigslist adds for something similar with the line of, "...I saw one just like it at Barrett-Jackson go for (insert absurd five digit amount here), so I'll take half of that and you can make it back once you finish it and sell it."

It boils down to did he give you the car or is he hinting that he expects you to pay him for it?

Too bad it's not a coupe as they fetch a bit more. I have seen these listed all around the upper midwest for anywhere from $500 to $2500 in condition similar to yours. They can be made into a nice looking cruiser but the appeal to the masses is limited. I like them but not the rear wheel opening - too square. Always thought adding a 40 Ford rear wheel opening would help the body flow better. Good luck whatever you do.

  20. If the guy thinks it's worth 3K take it back and ask him for gas money for wasting your time.

You mean if you EVER sell it? Regardless, see below.

    X2.

Absolutely...X2 for this also. He isn't "giving" anything to you...except maybe the shaft. And that's the truth. As others have said, $1,000, maybe $2,000 or so. In any case, it sounds like it could likely pose a problem between the two of you. Renegotiate or give it back. Spend a few thou and buy a coupe or something you really like and that's worth putting the time, effort and $ into.
