Today was a great day for a drive. Stopped and took this picture at a vintage gas station in our town. Forgot to drop the air ride down as it would have made a better picture.
I always liked the look of old gas stations. They just don't have interesting architecture for stuff like that any more. Btw, the car looks good at any height.
Cool photo and the station still has a visible pump. Most of the city ordinances in our town and surrounding areas have caused the demise of these old pieces of past gas station architecture. I miss this kind of stuff. HRP
Hey Don, you'll have to see it the next time you come out. The old station is about a 1/2 a mile from my house has been preserved by the town of Middletown in their Historical District. I can't imagine any old stations being any smaller then this one. Gary
I think they are actually smaller now. Just enough room for a cashier, candy bars, air fresheners, and overhead racks of cigarette's. The cashier is lucky if there's enough room for an "employees only" bathroom in some of them.
There is an old gas station in Indianapolis, on the way out the back of the Raceway Park, when I used to leave the Exhibitor's exit I'd pass it. I think someone lived in it the last time I saw it.
Old gas stations are about the coolest buildings anywhere. I love them. I'm counting the days until my kids are old enough to move out (the youngest is 2...) so I can build an old gas station looking shop in my back yard.
By far the best "old gas station" I ever saw was between north Houston and College Station Texas. Its kind of like a shed with fairly modern pumps. Its incredible. I took a picture of it and framed it. I'll try and take a picture of the picture and post it if it turns out. Anybody else recall seeing that place?
Apparently I missed this in the 15 years I worked at IRP. Must have gone the wrong way. I remember an old church down Raceway Road that someone was living in.
