Projects finally got my long desired 34 3 window

Never mind all that cosmetic shit Ben. Lol. You got those doors swinging yet.
I'll get onto dragging those pics off to you.

 

Well........
I'm trying to get the balls to dig into the doors... It's more of a project than I was imagining, the doors I mean .
I wanted to line the shell with wood as an original car would be.. I don't think thats going to be possible. I have not seen enough glass cars inside to see how they have done it.. It's hard .
This is the one thing I've decided i cannot do... I can build or fix anything, accept this door situation ... Makes me regret the choice of glass. Big time

Theres a detailed sketch on that PoliForm website but it's not that easy see.
The amount of steel work is on the high side of extreme, and most likely that body would be a lot heavier than original steel. Flynstone may like to share some of his door fabrication.

 

Somebody jacked the frame up around the steering box holes. Looks like the torched it out bigger and ended up with a giant hole.. So I had to cut it all out and replace it to match my custom f1 box . ( same setup I installed in my model a)
So I got the all welded in and smoothed out. Starting doors tonight ! See how it goes

Congrats on getting to do your dream car. Looking good so far.

Have you see the project33.com car? He used an outlaw glass body, and put tons of detail work into it. It's a long read, but there are some great ideas there.

 

Didn't do much today other than clean shop . I picked up an original working 34 column drop setup, and an original windshield crank. That will really help the original look... Need some thoughts on tail lights.... I was gonna run the usual bullet style 37 ford and have them on the frame rail sides.. Not 100 percent sure though. I'm also on the hunt for a decent set of old guide headlights . I really didn't want to get troops

I also have been doing a 34 frame for a friends street rod... Took a stock chassis, boxed it, installed the chassis engineering crossmember and rad mounts, trans mount, and the dual rear leaf spring kit. Installed a hair pin front end and a Lincoln narrow 9 inch rear. I had it blasted and coated with DP-90. It came out well.

I'm ready to drive it now! It's just not ready to be driven. Just got the email today that my frame is done. Seven months I been waiting for that thing!

 

Shit,
I'll have to see if I can send myself an email letting me know my frame is completed.... my wife will really think I went over the edge

Haha I've always admired the blackboard hot rods' frames. It was one my "have to have it" list. Although I could made one five times over by now. But a perfect tig welded pre-pinched frame suits me just fine for only a few hundred more than the rails and steel to make one. It was stock 32 or Gary pretty much.

 

I made all the wood templates for inside the car. My buddy who is an expert wood crafter is going to hand fit all the pieces in the car. That should make this build a breeze ... Once he is finished I can hang doors

I was just gonna suggest checking out JustplainJ's build on his glass '34,but he beat me to it. He did a fantastic job on building a Traditional style glass Hot Rod.
This is us last year at Bonneville....
Another awesome glass '34 was the one Pat Patton built a few years back. I'll post some pic's when I get home.

I just sent the patterns over to my wood crafter buddy. He is making everything I need. Then he is gonna come fit them in and make any modifications that I may run into needing..
Should have everything back next week and the real progress will began.
I did buy a (parts) car with a good 34 coupe title.. I'm extremely excited about that. So my little glass car is on its way to becoming bonneville bound, step by step

Milled off the flange on the f1 box... Fit the plasma cut flanges on it. Threw it in the parts washer and then blasted it all . Cleaned it inside real well and now the box actually works good. My machinest is installing a new shaft in the worm gear so it's full length . I'll weld the flanges on and the steering will be done !

Nice job on the steering box. Your project is coming along well!

 

I reassembled the steering box today. Works like new! Very smooth. Also I started messing with the dash. It needed some holes welded up that someone cut into it . Finished that up and that's about it for the day.

I like the dash setup, did they just round out the old oval guage holes with a die grinder or were they filled in and re drilled?

 

They look rounded out. I was gonna go with original style gauges but then I found speedway has the old style Stewart warner gauges with the ford logos. So that's what I'll buy . I'm just happy to have a real steel dash. The only problem is they gutted the glove box door. So it's just an outter skin , no inner plug or hinges

I had an old set if f1 shock mounts laying around . The were in rough shape . The studs for the shocks were very pitted and not heads. So I milled them off flat. Bored a 1/2 hole in them, inserted a new stud and welded it in. Then I decided to shorten them a lot , also made brackets to hold the headlights from the left over parts of the towers. I'm not sold on the look yet... They may be taken back off and something else done.. Opinions anyone?
