I've been building this roadster between jobs for the last 2 years, I started collecting parts for the project about 6 years ago. Started by fabricating a set ot 32 style frame rails with an original model A front cross member and 34 gearbox mount. I fabricated the rear cross member and the rest of the centre section. The running gear is all 34 Ford. Cheers Steve
I bought quarter panels, deck lid inner, and right door frame from brookville why'll I was in the States. Made a door skin for the brookville frame. Cheers Steve
I have started on the floor frame and steel out, and primed some of the bare metal as with the humidity here steel rusts over night. Cheers Steve
I made a skin for the deck lid and punched 126 louvers in it, i'm thinking I might put something , maybe lexen behind the skin before I fit it to the frame? Cheers Steve.
I wanted to run a large all in one gauge and found this one at a swapmeet for $10 bucks. I don't know what it's off but it looks 50s and has AC on the face, anyone got a clue? It had a had a cut off sender on the capillery temp gauge, so I swap it out for one from a 60s ford cortina gauge cluster. and shrunk down a chrome mark 1 zypher headlight ring to add a bit more bling. I still need to add another mounting ring for it to sit flush. Cheers Steve
Not much happening, had a lot of customer work. Not much time for my own stuff. I found some front hubs and drums at a local swap meet a couple of weeks ago, and i'm trying to get a cross steer setup worked out. The 34 steering was LHD and for rod rego over here it has to be RHD and the column has to be able to collapse in a accident. Cheers Steve
Psssh well, that gauge is really limiting the car. It'll only go 80! Haha, looks nice! Nearly building from scratch just buying quarters like that, I suppose there really isn't much more to these things anyhow, is there.
I don't get it , if this was a restoration would an original steering column be OK ? So what is the difference ( as far as rego go's ) between your period correct HotRod and shall we say a restored 1932 / 1934 V8 flathead roadster ? Is restored rego different to HotRod rego ? BTW, great project , you sure make it look easy.
It's because it's on a fabricated chassis and street rod rego. That's the rules over here, if it was a stock 32-34 it would be ok but you would have to have full fenders and bumpers and all that. Cheers Steve.
OK , i get it. Probably quicker to get a new project built than to find an original that is still on rego and for sale.
I got some more parts for the model A over the last month and have done a few more things to it, i've been busy with customer stuff and I have a vintage caravan on the go to. With the raised floor the rumble seat won't work with out cutting up my new inner rumble lid , so I went back to what I wanted to do in the first place , chevy boot hinges . I got some nice stainless ones from Curly ( thanks Greg) and made the rain gutter as im to cheap to buy new ones. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> <o>And I got a alloy radiator and just had to weld some pads on the bottom mounts to get it to fit and will paint it black to make it blend in. <o></o> <o>I also trimmed the grill shell to get the right height. Cheers Steve </o></o>
I made my own version of the ford T mould which goes in on the edge of the quarter panels to the boot opening. And this is the start of a theme I am going to use on this project, I am told it has a name , they call it steam punk, I just think it's cool. I made some tooling for the Pullmax to make the bead with a flange to rivet it on. I made some angle from .9mm copper sheet and run it through the pullmax several times. I then shaped it in the shrinker to the profile of the panel. I then clamp it to the panel and drilled it ready to rivet. This is how it will look when it is finished, but it wont be fitted until the car has been painted. Cheers Steve
