Projects Recreating the jesse lopez coupe

This is the first batch of chrome back from the platers, probably 75%.

 

As soon as you start showing pics of that stuff unwrapped I'm going to start crying. I only dream about nice shiny chrome.

 

This is Jesse of J-B Polish and Chrome. He's a poser and a lot of fun.

 

I got to thinking about my earlier post and realized my 41 Ford was 4 years younger than I was..... It seems like only yesterday....... But this thread is not about me ,Jer, If you feel my posts are cluttering up your build ,Send me a msg. and I will remove them. I have enjoyed your builds of Jr. and Jesse cars and hope to see a few more in the future.

Haha! Love it. Oh, you're in the deep end, alright, but swimming just fine.

 

Jesse and Bernie are hard working guy's. They do all the prep work and have a deal with a big chrome shop that's out of the area that does the plating. They have done a very good job for me. I've just had a couple pieces that needed a little more prep work (after they were plated). They said "no problem" and redid them.

They've just gotten a big account at a BIG custom shop that's local by saying that they do pot metal. I do have some pieces for another build (maybe) that are really bad. They said let us look at them, you'd be surprised what we can do.

I like these guys. They don't put on "airs". I can work with them to get what I want. Prices are friendly. Tell em' Jerry sent you.

Ready to be installed. After a couple of failed attempts at getting this shaped to the contour of the dash I got mad. Using the rosebud attachment to my oxy/acetylene welder, I carefully got it REAL hot. It did resist going molten and I was able to gently push the ends to fit and when it cooled it kept that shape. This is the original piece.

 

nice! I wonder if a heat gun would have worked?

 

I used a heat gun to form my rear tallights in the bumper guards. Had to be careful not to come to close or overheat. Then the plastic bubbled. But it was a great tool for it.

Nice work. I feel lazy I was going to just find another dash for my 41.

 

Jesse told me that he screwed that plastic bezel on with tiny screws. I wanted to glue it on with clear double back tape. The more I thought about it, I figured out a way to do it Jesse's way. I took a small piece of plastic with a sheet metal fragment with a hole in it down to Ace hdwe. I found the screws that would work. I made a low tech drill stop to protect the bezel and I was able to get it attached Jesse's way. WHEW!

 

WOW! That looks super space age and would've been crazy modern for back then.

Actually, after looking at that pic, that shows the R side attached with the clear tape (the L side isn't attached). Here's the real pic with the screws.

The dash and insert came out fantastic Jerry.

 

Very nice!!! I agree that it must have blown them away back 'in the day', I think it's very cool now. Look forward to each installation as this comes together, you are doing an amazing job Jerry. I have a question, what happened to the original car and when?

What color was Jesse's original interior?

 

Green that matches the plastic and Ivory. Jesse's car was totaled by the second owner about 1955.

Rik sent me this pic of the Zaro '41 Ford dashboard. This is when I was struggling with that bezel. It showed that I needed to define that groove that divides the two halves more. I also saw that my Appleton's are in the exact same place's. Zaro's ends are tapered more though. THANKS RIK
