Went to see it on opening night 1973 at the Country Squire Theater in Fresno with my 18-year-old bride. One thing I will never forget is how "into it" all of us were, people jumping up and down and standing together at times during the film and everyone so happy and vocally involved with the characters and action on the screen. The other thing that struck me is how similar the film was to my own experiences growing up a few miles south in the San Joaquin Valley. It was a typical night in many Valley towns back then, right down to the railroad switching sounds in the background.

anyone know who the guy was in the background in front of the liquor store and at the race? He walked away at the end wearing a big backpack.

Part of the reason i moved TO Petaluma was this movie.
Every Week i drive On Frates to get my produce from Green String Farm and I think about the drag scene and how lucky i feel to live here. Sometimes i wish the coe Im drivin could do burnouts.

figured I'd drop a two lane blacktop location in here....same car, eh? Santa Fe, they drop off the girl so she can hustle the tourists for money right here. I was in the area, so I visited today.

Thanks for posting brings back great memories. In 1973 we drove our Deuce Roadster to the Milford Drive in to see the movie plus a bunch of the other hotrods from the club I was in at the time also came along. Seen the movie dozens of times since its a true classic
