The "Stallsworth Mustang" is an interesting piece. It is owned by Bruce Johnson, who was part of a group that recreated this Mustang--one of the most popular late modesl from the Denver are--from period correct parts. Instrumental in the rebuild effort was Wayne Stallsworth's son, Doug, who was very familiar with the original car. While the original car had been lost to history, this is as faithful and accurate a recreation as could possibly be done. Never fails to draw a crowd, and is as good a memory jogger as any car I've ever seen!

VERY cool cars! There's nothin' better than a stocker that's been slammed and "radiused" for short track racing!

Well Been There, according to the Cory Agee web site I viewed I didn't see any indication of the engine size regarding the A bodied MoPar modified he's driving. It would be nice to think it is a well set up 318 or maybe a Hemi, but I would think in all likelihood it's a SBC as that is the boring norm for racing today.

His Plymouth bodied late model ran a 383 BB a few years ago, and I see his more contemporary modified runs the 355 which I think is a punched out SBC? Right?

Mopar thru their Direct Connection supplied NASCAR racers with an LA-based 355 back in the '70's. A bit too new for this thread though.

One of the best articles ever written about the "Factory wars" by a non- automotive publication. This is from the March 2, 1964 issue of "Sports Illustrated".

Picture of the car that won 27 races in 1967 - a record that has never been equaled, though the schedule is much shorter now.

I'm looking for a '64 GTO/LeMans that was raced in northern IL by a couple of brothers back in the 60's/70's. I think if anyone can find this car or a picture of it you guy can. Thanks
    Bill

  21. Beentherebefore - the "43" also went 7 wins in a row in that 67 season.....also a record that still holds up....

funny - some Indy guy won Daytona that season in one of those little Fairlane's with a 427....he didn't do much after that.....

I'm here John, I haven't got much left that I can find that fits this time period but I will look some more. The photo of the #54 red pickup was shot at Georgia International Speedway in Jefferson, Ga if any one is interested in the additional information.

:eek:Here are a few pictures of some of the cars I watched race way back when I was a kid. They were taken in the 60's at a couple of local dirt tracks. The number 14 car was my favorite, it was powered by a 426 Plymouth wedge and was top of the line for its day. All of the drivers in these photos are gone now as are most of their cars and the tracks they raced on. I would love to go back and watch them run just one more time. Oh yeah, I drove my first dirt track race in May of 1968.

Forgot this one. This is Dean Roper, his son Tony Roper was killed in a NASCAR truck crash and Dean died of a heart attack during a feature race a few years back in Illinois.

A few of Ernie Derr. The last one may be a year or two too new for here, but I'll risk it to show the cool suit he wore.

I believe that "Indy guy" had a 2 X 4bbl setup (allowed at that time by Nascar for Ford racers) to help him win @ Daytona.
