No, that is actually a picture of the very first LT1 Style motor from Chevy. It took until the late 80s to get it straightened out and they determined that it actually needed four bolts in the center to keep the valve covers from leaking. Much like the Stude V8s had.

 

Myth busted.

So is putting an inline radiator cap on the top radiator hose. Nice!

Hmmmmmmmm, I'm confused, but then, that happens far more easily these days.

 

About 1959 I was at the Firemans' fair when we saw a chopped and channeled Model A coupe in the parking lot with a Firedome V8 DeSoto in it.. I went and got my older cousin to take a look. He took one look and said that aint no DeSoto...that's a F'n flathead. So faking a larger more desirable engine is very traditional. An educational moment for a teenager.

Yep they sure were. Back then hot rodding was about making your car work better and not about being "period correct".

 

Yeah, I really miss Kodachrome. It was my favorite for photographing cars. Great colors and no grain... Now I have to buy Fujichrome which is ok, but not the same.

 

Why on earth would someone ever want to disguise the worlds greatest invention of all time? Wheel-----cotton gin-----sliced bread------handle on a bucket-----Small block Chevrolet. I couldnt find the sarcasm font to click on.

A friend of mine contacted a Taiwan company years ago to mass produce the covers and has been selling the hell out of these kits for years on egay. He has his powder coated and hand lettered. Different but not on my ride.

Just a set of valvecovers that happen to be held by center bolts.
Can it be he just liked the style, whatever they happened to be made for originally, and wasn't trying to convince anyone that he had an OLDS mill???

SWAPPING parts is perfectly traditional...but if you're FAKING with a purpose...maybe not so much.
Me...even WITH Oldsmobile written on them...I just see them as decoration.
If the owner himself tries to convince me it actually IS something it isn't...well, we might have some words.

I'd like to read the article noted on the top of the cover. "Smokers Fuel and Gas Championship" I have a few May issues of Hot Rod etc that would cover the March Meet. But being some of those were outlaw years I guess Hot Rod or NHRA would not cover it.
