I am going to cut the stock coils on my 54 chevy belair. I am think I'll start with 1-1.5 coil and go from there. Anywho, trying to figure out a rule of thumb on shock replacement after I make the cuts, will a pair of new stock shocks work from an auto parts store? I'm figuring on a 3 inch drop?? Any brand/part # suggestions? Anyone have pics? I've done some google searchs here and there...but no real good how-to photos.
Did you do this? How did it turn out? What shocks did you end up going with? Did you find a thread with good pictures?
On my 54 Buick I cut a coil and I used part number 5759 for sensatrac. They were perfect and cheap at the parts store.
Inked - Nice ride! Did you use drop spindles? Was one coil enough? How and how much did you drop the rear? How does it handle now?
Just one coil in the front, no dropped spindles. I was running 3in drop springs from Jamco in the back but it's 4-linked and bagged now. Rides awesome.
I have 2"-3" drop springs from Coil Spring Specialties and dropped uprights from Fatman with stock, off the shelf part store shocks. I think they are Munroe but I don't remember now. I've never had any problems. I cut my original springs but decided it was worth the money for new ones. I think I paid $169 but I don't remember for sure.
What was the drop on the uprights from fat mans? I have cut tree coils... I have recently ordered 1 1/2 drop uprights from buffalo and 2" drop springs from jamco? I hope to have the same look as I do now with a better ride? How far down is three coils?
