Thanks guys! I'm putting a GMC grill on mine too! There's a lot of good looking 60s trucks out there. I think they're getting more popular also.

lookin' good, I think a kneeknocker cab looks better with the step bed anyway... what are your plans for the hood and grille?

  9. Great thread but wondering if anyone has done a custom grill on one of these trucks? I need some inspiration, thinking of changing my stock one out.

I like parts of the GMCs and parts of the Chevs... so I mixed the two and ended up with this.

  11. Thanks nailhead but I was thinking more in the line of "full custom grill", totally different. Maybe along the line of '54 BelAir grill.

Initially I was going to use the floating grill bar off a '57 on my truck. Bought one off Ebay and it arrived busted.... long story. I still thin that would be an awesome look, especially on a 60-63 with the knee knocker cab.

I ended up modified the existing stock '65 grille to look a little less cheese grater. For details go to post #22 here: http://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?t=13928&page=2

  13. I have always been interested in doing something with the grill on mine too...

in my last 62 I ran 36 kitchen drawer pulls in the mouth of a chrome 62 grill I had... great fun and cheap. Lotsa conversations from that grill.

I've also tried to float 58/59 hood emblem in the GMC grill opening on the letter bar... never really felt it.

I just settled on a chrome 61 grill with chrome 60 insert to eliminate any lettering. Looks stock but it's not... and I added bumper guards too... sort of breaks up the grill's lines on the front but I do kinda like the bull dog look now.

have fun and lotsa PICS when you're done.

Look how clean those rockers/fenders are:eek: Don't even have to 'build' this thing to make it cool. Great find:cool:

No plans to 'build'... More like capture a snapshot and honor the history. I've started a build thread with more pics. Search "rust therapy"

Its gonna get said by someone, & most likely fairly rudely, so let me interject here:

The HAMB does not cover LS engines, so don't ask about 'em in the open forums.
However, there is a social group here dedicated to these trucks. You can ask about the swap there, as Ryan doesn't police the social groups.

Seen this '66 run at the drags this weekend. He's been running the truck for years... very consistent mid 12's.
