  2. Woke up to a rainy fall morning here in New England. Brushed the wet leaves off the 129 Zeppelin Speedster, pulled it off the trailer, and tucked it away in General Gow's palatial garage. Sunny Hot Rod Racing on the beach seems like a faraway day dream. It was so surreal....like being transported back in time. As others have said, the fog rolling through was astonishing. The rollercoaster and ferris wheel poking through the mist only added to the effect. I can't thank Mel and the Oilers enough for creating and hosting this event. It was phenomenal to hang out with all the other racers and spectators. Sorry if I couldn't associate all the faces and names and Hamb tags to say hi to everyone. It was a great case of sensory overload. I'm just sitting here sipping coffee and reveling in all the imagery... Loving Life!

Nth is was just the beginning... Sigh. by general gow, on Flickr

the car fought us all the way down. had to do several road side repairs including plugs and wires, and a jury rigged choke hold. it kept closing on me at cruising speed. on the way home, the tail pipe fell off, and i found a plug wire dragging under the car, motor running on 7 cylinders. it still had a random misfire most of the way home. i suspect the condenser. an exhaust leak almost put becky and i into hallucinatory stupors.

even the club plaque wanted off. as found in the parking lot after day 1.

Great shots, I barely post but read the hamb daily and have to post a huge thanks to Mel, the oilers and all that helped. I will be on cloud nine for a long time. Now I have to build another motor for next year to compete with Mike's overhead valve banger!

Any pix of the King Midget cruising ?

I hope next years dates are announced so I can reserve my room!

  10. I'm only half way home from my beach house in Lbi. It's spooky, storm coming in hard.

Tower legs got destroyed along with our announcer scaffolding this morning. Nuts!

What else can you say about this event that hasn't already been said. We left North Carolina at 6am Friday and made the trek up to the Wildwoods. Just three dudes in a Volkswagen Passat station wagon having deep conversations about lowriders, Lana Del Rey and how ridiculous porn is these days.

After checking in at our hotel we strolled down to the Starlux and it was immediately apparent that this was gonna be a great time!

From there we wen to La Piazza and ate some insanely good Italian food while watching Vinny Boom-Botz and Karen from Goodfellas shag to beach music classics.

Up at the crack of dawn to load the Sugar City booth out onto the beach! Hung around with John and Marcy from Thee Inland Emperors, such nice funny people.

Got to ride in John's tub out onto the beach (highlight of the trip)

Looks like a MAJOR GOOD TIME! We had a spectacular weekend of racing at the Day of the Drags here in Tejas, but you guys really set the bar high with the whole beach scene! Conratulations on another great show, fellas!

I absolutely loved this roadster. So much inspiration to come home and sell everything I own to build my roadster!

Unfortunately we had to get on the road before things really kicked off on Sunday. Luckily we did get to watch everybody roll in as we were heading out.

His mom is Charles and Paul`s sister, his dad is the outlaw in the Reichlin family.

  23. I thought that might happen when I saw the tower out in the surf. the legs of the tower were probably sunk down in the sand two feet or so by Sunday evening. You guys did a hell of a job putting this together Mel. I was staying at the hotel that your sister and dad were. She sure does have some stories to tell!!:)

  24. I bet there are more than a few of us who would love to here them as well

Wanted to say thanks as well, had a great time spectating the event. Getting down to the Starlux Friday night felt like entering a completely different time period.

Here are just a few of the pictures that I took from the event. I have a lot more, if you'd like to use them feel free, just please credit me! (Justin Mondschein).

Best part of the event for me was seeing all the old time motels filled with hot rods and watching them cruise the streets of Wildwood.
Like being transported back to the old days.
