In 1965 David powers and John riley teamed up with noel mauer. Noel owned the car and was supost to drive but david thought he was a better driver so he drove it. The chassis was built by don garlits and noel maure built the body by hand and painted it. The car was only ran one year 1965. It was the first wedge powered dragster to run 200 mph. The 3 way partner ship didnt work out and in 1966 powers and riley parted ways with noel mauer. In 1966 noel teamed up with willis and sent the chassis to get streched and built a new front half body and also switched to a hemi. I got to talk with David Powers, John Riley and Noel mauer on the phone and to hear there stories......it was awesome! John riley and david powers 1965 car First wedge powered dragster to go 200 mph. my dad bought the front body section at a auction in Iowa. my dad and david powers. Now we only need John riley and noel mauer to sign the body. FED for ever!
If you are still looking for John Riley, he formerly owned the Oldsmobile dealership in Dubuque Iowa and I think, still owns an import dealership on Hwy 20 west of Dubuque. I do not know about Noel Mauer, but I'm sure he is still in Dubuque.
Hey....yes I talked to john on the phone as well as noel. John lives in Dubuque and noel lives near dubuque. We hope to get up there to meet them. They all 3 were tickled to hear we had a peace of history.....that use to Be theirs...... Robert
Noel usually has his green 32 coupe at the Torque Fest show in Dubuque in the spring and at Goodguys in Des Moines in the summer. he also attends the cruise night in East Dubuque throughout the summer. He is a super nice guy and has a lot of cool stories
Yeah i loved hearing the stories over the phone. Noel said to come up and he would show me his room where he has all his old pictures from the good old days.......I was hoping to make it up there to get both john and noel to sign the body this summer.......maybe before winter hits.... Robert
Cool story Are you gona rebuild the dragster? ................................... Taildragger&fenderless
some day....king chassis in st louis missouri said he could recreate the garlits chassis....only big thing is the body....i would love to keep the original body and have a new creation made but the price on a hand made body is just ridiculous. Robert
If you decide to drive up to Dubuque, let me know and I would be happy to go with you. Macon to Dubuque goes right through Cedar Rapids. We also have a local racer that ran a nitro FED I (think it was a with a Garlits' chassis) in the same time frame as Noel. He may be a good source of information for you. He is oldtimer75 on the HAMB.
