Bought a mostly original '51 Chevy Styleline a couple of months back that was leaking a lot of transmission fluid. Thought it was a bad front seal, but turns out the case is cracked. Someone tried to weld it already, but obviously their "fix" didn't work.

Anyone out there have any leads on parts? Preferably within driving distance of Springfield, MO? For what it's worth I'd like to keep the car as close to original as possible.

    Thanks for the help...

  2. Simple fix? Grind a "V" along the crack, going about an inch beyond the beginning and end the crack, spray it with brake cleaner, and fill it with PC7.

Thanks, Mac. If I can't find parts, I may have to give the PC-7 a shot.

I'd just bite the bullet and swap out the case or the trans. I've got one from a '62 Nova if your interested.

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it. Buzz at Transtar was really helpful. Looks like I'm going to get a new case for the old car and have a local shop put it all back together the way it should be. Something tells me my cheap 50's 4-door is about to get expensive.

  9. You can have my '56 model, you just gotta come get it.

I'm not 100% positive but I don't think a 72 Glide will fit a 51 6cyl. I know the 6 cyl bellhousing bolt patern is different up to a certain year maybe 1960 or 61 after that they all had (6cyl and V8) had the V-8 style bolt patern.

A tired 51/54 Glide with a good case shouldn't be that hard to find nor that expensive. Hopefully someone within easy driving range will have one that they don't see as being worth a lot.

Consider a '53-'54 trans if you have to keep the 'glider. They fit bolt for bolt and at least they shift once ...
