  1. Their loss..... I'd seen pre Kirk gazette and enjoyed the Gazette far more under your stewardship. An Editor less magazine... interesting concept. Sure to fail.

Can't see you being unemployed for too long with your proven successes.

KIRK! I can think of a half dozen car and bike magazines today who could "Eliminate the editor" and make a drastic improvement. The Gazette was not one of them. You should have run that BOMONSTER feature story when you had the chance. It could have changed everything. Hhahaha!

Kirk, being as old as Gary Meador would give me only one thought why your position was eliminated. Goodguys wants to move away from a nice monthly magazine to only having an on-line magazine. MOO-LA rules the world!

Your work over the years has been great & I always look forward to "your" coverage!

I will keep an eye out for your next exposure in print.

    Your friend, Bob Perreault

Eliminating the editor? I hear the airlines are eliminating pilots too. Ain't it a wonderful world we live in today?

You're a wacked F#*k, KIRK, and there ain't enough of that going around IMO. Their (and our) loss man. Keep the faith.

Shit Kirk, I guess now I'll have to cancel the midget porn stars we had booked for GG @ TMS this coming weekend.

    Keep swinging slugger.

Sorry to hear about that Kirk, like the others said the Gazette has only been worth reading under your leadership.
If you plan to stay in print media, hopefully another mag snaps you up. Even if it turns out to be Better Homes and Gardens, we'll all get a subscription!

considering that goodguys online presence is virtually non-existent, i doubt that making the switch to a digital-only gazette is realistic. fuck 'em.

    (good coverage though)

gudguyz wanted to topple the CULT OF PERSONALITY that KIRK!™ has built, in favor of RATRODDERS and GOLDCHAINERS that cry out for their MOMENT IN THE SUN, before they move on to the NEXT BIG THING.

the gazette will GO BACK TO LINING LITTERBOXES, instead of putting ART IN YOUR MAILBOX every month.

Let Goodguys know how you feel with an email to [email protected]. Maybe he's out of touch with the day-to-day operations. Hard to understand why they'd cut Kirk loose after totally turning the Gazette around. Been there 10 years or so, I think. Shitty deal!

Kirk, Short and sweet..................."they can't keep a good guy down". Uncanny that the two "g" words have a double meaning. Onward to the next challenge.

That sucks, I have been a Goodguys member since about 1988 or 89 (my membership number is 3 digits ) and you have improved the Gazette by about a million percent, it WAS a first class publication.
You should go fix Rod & Custom now.

    Thanks for proving me right.

People are hot rodders, not HAMBers. It has become a place for judging and complaining before discussing hot rods. Nothing says that can't be fixed or that there isn't still great content here, but it doesn't have the luster it once did when those "in the know" were the majority. It's a completely normal result of a site's popularity. Ryan is constantly making improvements to thwart this, but it's no easy task. I'm not saying that anyone sucks because of it, just stating my opinion.

The reason I said that is because there are so many people here who want to say something sucks, just because they think it's cool to, not based on a real experience. I always give the reasons for my opinion and I believe everyone should.

If I thought it was a complete loss would I be here to talk with people?

    Kirk,
I remember the Gazette pre-Kirk. The improvements are truly something Kirk & his team should be proud of. Goodguys loss will be someone's gain. I know you bounce back, it's hard to keep a good man down!

  20. Kirk, the contributions I've seen that you made here were awesome.
    Great coverage and photos.
You will be an huge asset to whomever is fortunate to hire you.

Ditto the above....you will be sorely missed! I agree also with basic bob - this all about money and I don't see a digital only Gazette being very well accepted....thanks for your contributions over your tenure as editor...good luck in your next venture......and by the way a good example of how one man can significantly improve a publication is evident with Hot Rod adding Thom Taylor to the staff! The same can help deteriorate a publication by ELIMINATING a certain individual named Kirk!!............Joe

I have abandoned all hope of winning at this amateur farce of a game by now. How low I have fallen without even jumping... This is like watching a pickup game between convicts in a federal prison: shoot and miss, shoot and miss, shoot and miss - even the guards are sneering as us bums try like hell to kill the clock.

So, let me kill it... at least for now and at least so I can get back to work that matters to me.

I had nothing at all to do with Kirk's firing from the almighty. And from what I've been told, his actions on this court had nothing to do with his dismissal either - although Goodguys was very much aware of them.

My opinion has no real bearing on the subject at hand, but I'll give it anyway as for one reason or another I seem to be in a bit of a vain mood.

Kirk, the negativity you see on the HAMB is partly your own fault and partly due to circumstance.

Circumstance. Like it or not, you are (I guess were) the face of Goodguys on the HAMB. And this place doesn't align directly or indirectly with Goodguys. The two have such different paths that ultimately lead to such different places that it was only natural for you to see so much negativity. If even one of the 1.7 million people that viewed the HAMB last month had a beef to blow with Goodguys, you were the guy that they went hunting for. You were Goodguys.

Nothing you could do about that. And it was too tough of a job for a mere mortal to withstand all by himself. I knew this and often tried to help, but doubt I did much good.

Your Fault. I believe part of it is... This is the internet. The closest social structure of which is something along the lines of a prison yard when it comes to friction and social conflict. Any arguments that are lost are done so loudly and without mercy. Any victories are silent and subtle... and only realized after some great time has passed.

If you have a complaint about Goodguys, your only action should have been short, sweet, and mind numbingly polite.

"I'm sorry to hear that you compare our new Goodguys venue to the hood after a good riot. We are working hard to make this show as good as we possibly can, but realize that our efforts might be good enough for some of you. For that, I apologize."

And then that's the end of the line. No more replies. No more conversation.

Instead, you allowed yourself to get drug into arguments that you couldn't win. And rather than bowing out only to win with great content and event coverage later, you attacked the HAMB.

What good exactly did that do? None in my eyes. All you really did there was further piss off the potential Goodguys customer and add a sick bastard like me to a growing list of hoodlums that are sick of this shit.

Ultimately, the HAMB will always be as good as you allow it to be. You put in good content and you get great output in return. You put in shit and the backlash will double you over like a viscous kick to the kidney. It's how it should be. It's how it is.

In any regard, I am in fact sick of this shit. So, we are getting back to traditional hot rods and customs now. Kirk, I welcome you to stick around and input good. And if not, you can sit back and laugh at the joke. I'm fine with that.
