Can someone tell me if I can use a starter that isn't foot operated for this set up? I am doing a T5 swap in my 51 sedan and just came across a truck bellhousing. Thanks.
I don't see why not, it is just a momentary switch. Should just be able to change the ignition switch to one with the starter switch in it and rewire it. This is just a guess based on a thought process, though. I have never tried to do this swap myself.
That's what I was thinking. Im just tight on money and want to make sure everything will mount and mesh correctly.
I changed a 58 with a 235 to a later style starter----best i remember all i had to do was change the ignition switch to one with a start position , replace the truck starter with one for a 55-57 6cyl car &run a 10 ga wire from the sol termnial on the switch to the solinoid
yup, just make sure the flywheel and starter match. 6v engines used a 6v starter, 12v engines used the 12v starter. The gear teeth are different. Trucks had foot switch (thru 59, with manual trans), cars had key switch.
