I knew I had seen the picture you were describing, but was having trouble finding it. Here it is, with the Hemi.

This is what So-Cal blown gas coupes morphed into. Basically pseudo funny cars. A natural progression I guess.

  3. What a cool thread. I have always loved the Clark & Clark Opel. I think the paint work and the Clark logo on the doors is soooo cool.

Time to "Wake UP" this thread again..... here's an Opel GT with a much different backdrop than the other pictures posted so far.
(wonder how much they have to turn that rear-mounted "key" to get that thing to run??? Ha!!! :D )

Not a Kadet but I can remember the Opal GT that the Wrench Pit in Detroit used to run in the 70's. As I recall it was called "The Janitor". Any one remember that car?

    THANK YOU PA INDIAN!!

Hank Wilko's Opel ran BB/GS with a 354 DeSoto. They tinkered with roller cams and tuned headers. The car was the most evil sounding machine I've ever heard. To this day, it's one of my all time favorites!

I think the original builder was a Sherman Sligh. I wrenched on a similar car around the Nashville, Tn area around 1974.The car had a 300" Ford six w/a "hybrid" head made from sections of Boss 302 heads furnace brazed together. I believe the heads were made by C J Batten. When I worked on the car it was driven by Floyd Maxwell & sponsored by Allied Bearings of Nashville,Tn. I believe they bought the car from Sherman Sligh. It was a "killer" car for quite some time. NHRA finally put a weight penalty on the hybrid head engines & rendered them uncompetitive.
