After being closed and "re-purposed" over a 35 year period, Onondaga Dragway has re-opened. The 1/8th mile facility is located in central Michigan, halfway between Lansing and Jackson. Congratulations to all concerned!
I looked this up on Google Earth and found the racetrack at 3.25 miles west of Leslie, Michigan on Bellevue Road.
WOW! Neat to hear this. Very, very rare to see this happen again anywhere, a drag strip reopening.....
Anytime a drag strip reopens it is a wonderful thing and I wish they all the success in the world. Jimbo
Very Kool. I wish Aquasco would reopen. Spent many a weekend there...JT Tear down a Mall and build a dragstrip
Jon I have been watching for this for several months, when are they actually going to run cars, or have they started? Remember the place as having a short shut down area, which I believe accounts for the 1/8th mile. Will definitely support them-Jim
Excellent News, Jon!! I have been jokingly promoting the idea of establishing drag racers as an endangered species, because we are. Maybe it would help protect our habitat, dragstrips. Support your local track!
Responding to the various queries: 1. the track has opened and run one event; good weather, good turnout of both cars and people. 2. yes, I did announce there from about 1962-70. 3. please go to their FB page and welcome them back at: "thenewonondagdragway". 4. yup, she was a tad short; they'll have great success as an 1/8th miler.
That's great news! I grew up near there, attended my first race there (circa 1963), made my first pass down the quarter there (1964 Plymouth, G/SA). I remember you announcing.
Raced there a few times in the 60's. 61 Chevy 348 4 speed. Would like to bring the Falcon gasser out if I can find out when they run.
