Hello, My Hornet goes fine trough the gears but the first gear is making an horrible grinding noise. Sounds like I'll have to pull it out of the car to change *something* but I wanted to be sure it couldn't be solved with adjustments. Here is a video I just took. When you see I put the first again this is of course while releasing the clutch from under the car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE6vFXlr8qE Thanks for any though. Thib
Thanks Dave, You're speaking about #30 right ? I'm wondering how the noise only happens in first gear and not in second, third or reverse. Don't they all rely on that bearing ?
Sounds like a bearing noise for sure. drop the trans and pull it apart you will soon see what is the problem.
Will definitely do it. Oh and I was wondering what is the purpose of the two solenoids (one at each side). Overdrive ? They aren't connected to anything. How should I wire it ?
Sounds like you have an overdrive unit trans. One is a solenoid and the other is a governor. You have to run a cable for the mechanical part of the overdrive, and then run a toggle for the solenoid.
Also check and see if your lever on the side of the trans is engaged all the way. If it is in all the way the trans will freewheel until the solenoid is engaged and then you will be in overdrive. I think I said that right.hahaha
Ok so if I understand well when I'm running I first pull the cable under the dash then toggle the solenoid on to go in OD. Also the car has been converted to 12v; is it going to blow ?
Went to the garage today to pull the trans covers off. Made the same video but with an opened gearbox. Cogs look great so I believe it's a bearing problem. I'll figure it out once it's outside of the car.
