Projects 58-59 Chevy truck custom grilles...

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by ElBrujo, Sep 19, 2013.

  1. Has anyone put something other than the stock grille on their 58-59 pickup? I'm looking for inspiration as I'm going the custom route on my '58 big window fleetside.

Post a clear, head-on photo of your truck on the Photoshop thread. You'll get some inspiration there, for sure.

Riley Collins did a number on this similarly bodied '55 Cameo.

ive seen one with a 58 chevy car bumper and it looks good

  10. Yeah Andy, I was thinking of that too. But I'm pretty set on the drawer knob grille. I just need a visual to see how that would all work.

I was thinking of up side down 58 or 59 ford grille. (the one with the stars in it) But i don't have one to try it on my truck.

  12. That's a great idea, but that grille seems too narrow to work.

how about a 54 pontiac center with 53 chevy ends

  14. The problem with these trucks is the open space between the headlights and that the front end is flat as opposed to curved like most vehicles. If you put a floating grille in there it will seem like an after thought. Another thing to possibly do would be to graft a grille surround from another car so you can eliminate that space and then you could do a floating bar.

I think McPhail's purple truck had a dodge (?) car grille in it. it looked good. there's plenty of pictures of in on here somewhere.

  16. The purple truck with the '55 Dodge grille, I think. Yeah, that's a bad ass truck.

id go this way. itll let you shape the surround to your liking more and the grill will fit right in

maybe not crazy custom but this is what i did. 57 chevy hood rockets mounted into the 2 bar portion of the stock grill. Its painted for now, hopefully someday it will be chromed...

Did you decide on a grill yet? You can always go the expensive route like I did on my '58 GMC 100?

    Here is another version.
This time I used enlarged 1958 Buick squares to stand in for chrome drawer pulls.
If you actually used a '58 Buick grille, the squares would be smaller, but still attractive.

  27.
  28. Both of those look killer. I just want to add the '58 rear tailight bezels up front to see afar it looks like. It might be too much.

Love the 58 Chevy bumper. I too would like to see a 54 Pontiac grille.
