a long time ago in the 50s body shops would take two identical cars, cut them in half and weld the front ends together. Growing up in Chicago I've seen a few, mostly old mo-pars. This is the first Olds I've ever seen done this way.
Yep. This little Crosley has been sitting at our local Dog-n-Suds drive in for decades and decades... Supposedly it was refinished in 1976 (the better photo), but it has gotten really bad in the last ten years or so. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I remember shops saving cars this way. Watched/assisted on an Eldorado, a GTX conv and a Ford Fiesta (!?!) that got saved. It was referred to as a clip job and really effective if you know what you're doing and where to cut. Not a bad way to save some of our cherished examples.
Those cars fascinated me as a kid. I remember Model A's primarily. I also saw a '64 Ford like that at the Doo-Dah parade. Where are they now?
I remember seeing an Eldorado around. I wonder if they kept both drive trains? That'd be fun, ne'er have to back out of a parking spot, lol.
The little Crosley drove around years ago... Probably been 30 plus years sitting dead though... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
cu·ri·os·i·ty ... somebody or something thought strange: an interesting and unusual object, person, or phenomenon
Oildale - aka North Bakersfield had one in ~ 1970 Evans MAple Shop corner of Roberts Lane & Chester Ave. Shoe box 50 Ford or ? Double header all I remember. Sat out with a giant rocking chair
There used to be a 57 Ford like that, advertizing a furniture store or appliance store. Jeez I haven't thought of it in years, this was when I was a kid, it must have been made out of a couple of late model wrecks because the 57 was only a few years old back then. Have seen 2 or 3 others but don't remember the specifics. I think it was a thing they did in the fifties. At least the ones I remember were 50s - or 40s cars.
Or "Wrong way Corrigan", the pilot that went the opposite direction that he should have and got lost.
Lydias café in Imperial Beach Ca. had a 2 ended early fifties Pontiac, supposedly restored in the 80,s for parades but who knows what happened to it!
The little town in which I grew up in Texas the local scrap yard had one up on a really tall pedastal just by the front gate. I always thought it looked cool. No idea what kind of cars they were but definitely pre-war.
