I have to admit that I was in the camp to not chop it, but after seeing PhatCaddy's 40 I have changed my mind. WOW WHAT A BEAUTY!

    Very nice -40, Phatcaddy. :)

The -39 do however have a very different body, compared to the 1940 Series 52 that is chopped here. The 1940 Series 50 have a more similar body to the -39, but the Series 52 is a whole other thing. So, it's hard to compare.

And! Great to see the photoshop, James D! So much easier to visualize. I think I prefer the lowest version with the quarter window. Maybe a more leaned post. :)

I love the chopped versions. And as each version got lower, I liked it better.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with this car. It is gorgeous now and it seems you have the right idea with every change so far. Can't wait to see more progress.

Removing that rectangular hunk of trim from the hoodsides is also a huge improvement, it really lengthens the car.
That 3-window version is damn nice.

beautiful rendering, the hood trim removal and the removal of the rear window make this a eye catching kustom.classy and simple.

I think my new plan is to run it with a few more changes until we get some shop time opened up at Atlas and the the 3 window version is going to happen. James D you just cost me a lot of money. Ha.

A message to DaddyO. Get ready cause this is about to get real.... Oh yea I need it in a couple months....

James is the best. So active in helping EVERYONE with photoshop. He did a few colors for me on HAMB about 3.5 years ago that got me on the right track for what color family I wanted.

  10. I should keep quiet in future.

Not sure if you noticed, as it´s not that obvious, but the roof is shortened a few inches on the three window version.

Man i can't believe how good the 3 window looks. Thanks a lot for doing the photoshop. Did you shorten the body any? I can't see the pics good enough on my phone to tell.

  13. No, nothing that serious - just "couped" the roof/extended the catwalk a few inches, having noticed how long the roof profile was. (Don´t ask how many inches, there´s no way to know for sure).

    My favorite, too. By far.
But alas! It appears the die may be cast.

G'day from Down Under, I have just begun a similar project. I've got a 39 Cad Sixty Special that I want to convert into a two door hardtop. Maybe with a lift off top. I'll be keeping tabs on your progress to help push me along. Good Luck. Q

Hello, this tread is something i will follow.
I am building a 1939 Lasalle, old kustom styled, and i have been looking for some tips for how to do.
I have found some dravings from a man in Finland,Janne Kutja, it is a 1937 Cadillac, but the flow in the rooflines can be used on a Lasalle to.
    Keep on!
    Ketil.

  21. I love Janne´s work - he´s on here sometimes.

You´ll have some work to do to copy that roofline - it looks rather more curved above the windows than the stock roof line. But totally worth it if your metal work skills are up to the job.

This is a friend of mine's 41. He filled the side rear windows and increased the windshield and back window rake. Q

Those are great looking cars . I think the 39/40 lasalle's are very easy to ruin. I like the 3 window version by James D a lot . Looking at PhatCaddys in person is where I really see how much of a difference his is to a stock one . I believe Brian did an amazing job on re creating the flow of the car from the roof to the rockers
