Take a look at the website: www.inliners.org They are a wealth of information for any inline engine.

Hey 55 Dude, question. Are you sure the Date code is G253, that would be an engine cast July 25 in a year ending in 3. The code H0730PC decodes as the engine being assembled at the Hydramatic Engine Plant on July 30 or 5 days after casting so that makes sense.

The PC code, is a 230 in 65 and 66, a 250 in 67. So no year ending in 3, just curious.

only way to correctly identify a 250 or 230 is to pull the head and check the bore.

Since the 230 and 250 are the same bore size and the blocks are cast from the same patterns.....what is measuring the bores going to tell him.

I know that also, but I was questioning how he thought actually measuring the bore was going to tell him the difference between the 230 and 250 since they are the same bore size.

  13. Looking in the #1 cyl and no valve reliefs so good chance its a 250, thanks.

  14. i was able to id the 250 i am working on by looking up the numbers in my 1973 motors manual. it had a nice listing and even told what type of car, what transmission was behind it and a few other options.
