The 55 looks like Bob Adams Jr., from Racine, Ohio. The year is probably 1982.

I was talking about the top photo of the three, the bottom two are Falcons. Jody was hard to beat in any of them and on any track, dirt or asphalt.

This is a great picture, look at the kid on top of the car. Is he dreaming of the day when he can race too? :D

John, Thanks for asking. Putting the glass back in. Buz McKim is coming to letter the car in a couple of weeks. Photos then.

Looks like a great job of putting a real stock car together.

I agree with Big John, especially where he writes "real stock car" ;);) ! C5 it is looking great. Love the finish on the instrument cluster too. Winkle paint, right? If you did it, nice job as that stuff is a bit tough to work with.

Thanks guys. That is wrinkle-paint. That's the way that H&M painted their cast instrument clusters in 1963 and 1964. Ditto for the Stroppe Marauders that used a slightly different casting. Both are unobtanium today.

Take it thats an inertia reel lock (probably aircraft surplus) on that bar?

OK old timers.....Ive always called that bar a Petty bar, knowing I was probably wrong...Is a Petty bar that one or the diagnal that runs through the main hoop behind the driver???

It may not be that bar we see here. According to the quick research on the net, it appears the Petty Bar comes down from the center of the main roll over hoop to the and is moored to, or next to the right front frame rail. Interesting trivia question. Should add that one to trivia night at Petty's Bar. :D

That is the "Petty Bar" (runs from the center of the shoulder height cross bar on the rear hoop to the right front frame). And that is an air craft inertial reel release. Many Grand National cars in the late 50s and 60s (and all H&M cars) used this set up. It allowed drivers to release the shoulder harness as needed...to do things like reach the cigarette lighter in the dash! HA!

C5HM, I was wondering what the cast in bosses might be for on the instrument cluster in the B&W pic. They are to the left and right of the tach, and not on the one shown in your car. (Turn indicators? :D)

C5HM, do I see 2 tiny toggle switches on the dash? Under the ash tray.... Any idea what they're for?

I seem to remember the "Petty Bar" being added later than C5HM's car, it extended from the top right front of the upper hoop and extended back to where the "wedge bar" shown in the photo attached to the cross bar behind the driver. It's purpose was to keep the top and cage from coming down in case of a hard hit to the right front of the top in a crash. That is from an old memory and may not be the gospel.

Falconred, That's what I was thinking, too...but a net search identified the downward tube as a "Petty" Bar?
As to the cast nobs on the Lorenzen dash...I have always thought they were cast for idiot lights...but I have never seen any in that location on that (second) version of a cast H&M '63-'64 dash. The dash warbird derived Micro switches performed several functions. One was used to turn on the light that shined through the trap door on the right floor-board (for tire inspection). Note the white cord in the Lorenzen car that was the pull string for the inspection door in that car. Her's the trap door in C4HM-10041.

On the harness reel. Are you going to put some paint over the green finish ?? You know how bad the racers were in the 50s thru the early 70s
