What was your first speed equipment part?

Wow, hadnt thought about this for a while. When I was 15, I helped a friend of a friend on his dirt stock car, and at seasons end he gave me a Pete Jackson Gear Drive wrapped up in an old paper bag. Put it in my Chevelle after I got my license and got it running.

Still have one sitting on the shelf, but not that particular one...

 

Dual exhaust my dad helped me put on. I swear to this day, he only did it so it was easier from him to hear me come home late at night (early morning).

 

In 1961, Ansen floor shift for 54 chevy 3 spd, bought from C&H speed shop in Springfielg MO

 

My first ever speed part was a harmon collins magneto for a 59ab flatty

 

1966 , got a Hurst shifter to convert my bone stock 55 Chevy 6 cyl ," three on the tree "to a floor shift .....didn't go any faster of course but looked cooler than shifting on the column .

my first speed part was a sun tach that i mounted on the dash of my 54 ford that had a 55 engine in it. my dad had a fit when i drilled the holes in the dash for it. it was purchased at Barkers Custom Asessories in Kannapolis N.C.bout 1964.................

 

Bought a cast iron intake and rochester 4GC carb for my 265 powered 56 chevy for $30. Got them from the Service Center in Compton CA used parts shelf. Got them from Sweet Shel himself.

 

Used Purple Shaft cam for a small block Mopar.

 

Blackjack headers for my 64 Falcon Sprint, which also brought me my first Snap On wrench, a 30/60 7/16" open end.

 

A set of adapters from Honest Charley to bolt a 303 Olds in my 48 Ford.

Edelbrock C4B manifold for the 283 I swapped into my 50 Plymouth. Age 16.

Second speed part was a brand new Super T-10, 2.43 ratio (close ratio model). It was the first sold in my town and I still have it (with maybe 1,000 miles on it).

 

Replaced the factory iron 4V intake on the 302 in my 68 Mustang with an over the counter aluminum hi rise. Put the carb spacer on upside down and the only sealing the bottom was the gasket. LOL, ran great til I punched it the first time and sucked the gasket.

 

Depends how you define it, I guess headers and a Weber carb on my MkII Escort counts right?

I can't remember what it cost, and I really can't even remember where it came from... but I CAN remember how excited I was when I finally scrounged up enough money to change the cam and lifters in my '55 Chevy.
Funny thing was, after I finished installing it, (at age 17) and the car cranked up on the first try, I figured "Man, I can DO this! I'm a real hot-rodder!" 42 years later, I'm still playin' with cars and enjoying (almost) every minute of it. As for '55 Chevy's, I've owned at least 50 of them since that first one. Matter of fact, I've got 2 of them now!

 

Not sure if it was baby moons from K-Mart for my 65 Buick Special,or a glass pack from J.C.Whitney for the same car in 1970....then I was ready to cruise Woodward Ave!!!!

 

Allard twin carb manifold $50 ran it on the flathead for many years, wall hanger at present.

4bbl Weiand intake manifold and 600vacuum secondary Holley carb for the 283 in my first car.....a 1957 4 door Belair. It had a cast iron 2bbl and 3speed column shift manual. The Holley carb made a huge difference to performance and fuel consumption!

Something or other from jc whitney,then they sent me 679,356 catalogs.

 

Mine was given to me some where around 1966 and it was an aluminum 2 -carb intake for a flat head Ford . After I got drafted and was serving in the Army my step father , in the process of cleaning out our barn, threw the manifold and a bunch of flat head stuff away. I guess he figured it had no value.
