Chevy 327

    Im going to look at a 327 chevy smallblock that I might buy !

    Anyone that knows the diameter of the crank, the big crank ? Or casting number on the engine block ?

    Sorry for crappy english ! Hope you guys understand !

    Ok and then messure ? or look for casting numbers on the crank ! I dont know the messurements on none of the cranks !

    Stamped numbers on the block are on the passenger side, front of the block, on a rectangular pad on the same plane as the deck. If possible, get the casting number too, located on the rear of the block, driver's side, behind the cylinder head.

    And if it has heads, get those casting numbers too, located in the oil galley.

    Report back and we'll decode it for you.

  5. It was the stroke man. The doc says I can blame all my word switching on it for a year. OK. Rod "journals" are 2.0 on small 2.1 on big
    Main Journals are 2.3 small 2.45 on big

    rod mains ? Remember im swedish ! Is it the front axel on the crank where you install the damper ?

    ok rod journals is where you install the connecting rods to the crank !

    main journals is where the crank is installed in the engine block.

    am i right ?

    Not super good at technical english.

    Didn't the 327 have 2 crank journal sizes, and 2 different ones as far as material used.

    I believe that it was '68 that GM went to the large journal crank for all their V-8s. So it would be the same as a 350 if it is 68 or newer.

    2.3 is that the diameter of the crank in the engine block ?

    If it has a down draft tube its a small journal.....no down draft tube its a large journal...if I remember correct
