Im going to look at a 327 chevy smallblock that I might buy ! Anyone that knows the diameter of the crank, the big crank ? Or casting number on the engine block ? Sorry for crappy english ! Hope you guys understand !
Ok and then messure ? or look for casting numbers on the crank ! I dont know the messurements on none of the cranks !
Stamped numbers on the block are on the passenger side, front of the block, on a rectangular pad on the same plane as the deck. If possible, get the casting number too, located on the rear of the block, driver's side, behind the cylinder head. And if it has heads, get those casting numbers too, located in the oil galley. Report back and we'll decode it for you.
It was the stroke man. The doc says I can blame all my word switching on it for a year. OK. Rod "journals" are 2.0 on small 2.1 on big Main Journals are 2.3 small 2.45 on big Sorry
ok rod journals is where you install the connecting rods to the crank ! main journals is where the crank is installed in the engine block. am i right ? Not super good at technical english.
Your english is fine. Here is a link that will help you with numbers and I believe some specs: http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php I believe that it was '68 that GM went to the large journal crank for all their V-8s. So it would be the same as a 350 if it is 68 or newer.
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td align="center">327</td> <td> </td> <td align="center">1968-69</td> <td> </td> <td align="center">4.001 (2.3" main)</td> <td> </td> <td align="center">2 bolt</td></tr></tbody></table> 2.3 is that the diameter of the crank in the engine block ?
If it has a down draft tube its a small journal.....no down draft tube its a large journal...if I remember correct
