Hi guys, I just wanted a bit of general advice about my chevrolet 3100 53", I'm trying to make a decision about weather I should keep my fuel tank in the cab or to move the tank to the bed? Ideally I would like to keep the tank in the original position but I am worried about the fuel smell.

Has anybody had problems with a fuel smell with in cab mounted fuel tank ?

    Many thanks

    Dylan

as long as the filler neck has no leaks & the vent hose on properly you wont have any fumes. ive had cab mounted tanks in a lot of old trucks with no problems

I still have the tank in my stock location in my 61. Make sure the filler neck flex hose is in good condition and has two good hose clamps. No fuel smell here.

I allways figured if the tank blows up it would'nt make any difference if it was 6 inches behind you or 4 ft behind you

I replaced the behind seat tank in my 50 a few years ago.
New behind seat tank, new filler hose and have no issues with fumes.

If you do need to replace your stock location tank with new, I would look into a Spectra brand tank.
Made in Canada and is a direct fit.
I have read some of the other new tanks being offered have issues with filler neck alignment and metric threads on bottom (issue for the bottom fill years)

I purchased a Spectra brand tank online from rockauto.com

    Good luck

I like the space behind the seat to store things, just my opinion.

I hope this doesn't turn into an in-cab vs. between-the-frame rails debate.

FWIW I think that in the cab is safer in a frontal or rear end collision because you have that much more sheet metal and frame to crumble before the tank is in jeopardy. In a t-bone collision you're pretty much boned anyways.

Besides, I like the sloshy sounds!

  11. Why and don't give me some bull shit answer. Something that you know to be true is a good answer.

  12. I moved the gas tank from under the seat to the back of the frame on my Deuce pickup for two reasons, number one I could lower my seat and 2 because I didn't like the idea of sitting on a gas tank. HRP
