A very interesting ship. Built to replace the Andrea Doria, lost in a tragic accident. Many new safety measures used in construction as was the potential to convert to nuclear power.

Anybody know why the original Phillips 66 sign had the 2 sixes at an angle...running downward? Seemed like an odd design decision. This was later updated with the 66 straight with the Phillips name.

 

This was answered about 1,000 pages back when the same question was asked. I hope the HAMBer who replied back then chimes in. Going back looking for his post would be no fun.
