So I'm just looking online at different tail light ideas for a 49 fleetline. I don't really care for the stock ones. I was thinking two frenched 59 Cadillac lights on each side. My plans for the car are chopping the top and lowering it. Painting it some flat color of some sort and white walls. Just wondering if you guys would have any thoughts on different taillights for the car.......Thanks.
If you a building a custom, '62 Mercury Monterey tail lights are very unique and look really good on customs. But it takes a fair bit of massaging of the rear fender to make them look right.
I thought those long pointy tail lites were stock 49 Chevy lites????? Those and the optional 39 Ford Chevy tail lites. Those were stock too i think! What's funny is many use the 49 Chevy lites in other customs. But trying to keep it tradtional both of those or 50 Pontiac do look nice.
I like the 89 caddy lights, turns out some 50's caddies look just as good without fins as they do with em'. whoda thought? anyway if you don't mind spending a little more, 57' stude taillights never fail. the height of two of em' stacked on each other makes for the perfect tailfin. not too big, not too short, either.
I almost put new PT Cruiser tail lites on my 1948 Chevy panel truck. Even bought new take off lites. Then reality hit me. I now have frenching boxes and tail lights for 59 Caddy and 48 Chevy. Plus new 50 Pontiac lites. Decided the stock old original lites look cool. And they are different because everyone changes them.
R Frederick; Do you have any more pictures of the rear of your '50 with the '63 vette tail lights from different views ?? If so can you post them ?? Thanks, Ray...
Check out some 61-65 corvair "FC" van/wagon tail lights turned vertical and frenched in. This gives a fin illusion without a true fin and is very unusual. Just my 2¢ as a newbie.
If a car came from the factory with a single taillight, that is legal. The year does not matter. In most states, it all has to do with what came on that vehicle, originally.
OK thanks, good to know. So if a 20 year old cop looks at my registration he can't make a blanket statement because of the year.
