Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by t_wood_08, Oct 30, 2012.

  1. very cool find, so you going to bring it back to a true 50's look? or restore to how it is now...either way very cool!

  3. Ok, that last pic I posted is not the Drag roadster this thread is about.

I happened upon this photo in "Tex Smith's Hot Rod History Book One: The Beginnings"
This is definitely it, photo taken @ Bonneville early to mid 50s, spectator car.

Tanner, I was just over to the shop a couple weeks back and from the looks of the roadster you better get your butt in gear to make Vantage in a few weeks! Wait , I am no closer to having my sedan ready either so I better keep my mouth shut. We both better shoot for next year! Your coupe updates were looking good when I was over though .

Ya I was talking about next year but I still need to get my ass in gear! Thanks! Ya I finally got it back on the road and just got back from the eruption drags with it. I'm happy to have it back together.

    Jimmy B,

Great eye! It looks like that was the same car. The headlight bar, front rounded frame, radius rods, and spring perch all look the same. That's really cool! Thanks for finding and posting this picture. I had the son of the original owner, who built the car, contact me through email about a week ago. I asked him if he could give us some more history of the car and a timeline of when it was built, sold, and disappeared. I also asked if he had any old pictures of the car. He said he remembers playing in the car as a kid. Haven't heard back from him yet, but I'll keep everyone posted.

Fantastic car! If you've got any interest in replacing the motor with another injected Ardun, let me know. I could put you in touch with someone not far from you who has one that's supposedly for sale. PM me if you're interested.

Keep up the good work and thanks for all the old pics!

Thanks, but I don't think I have deep enough pockets to own an Ardun. Haha

  13. Different front axle and spring but sure does look like the same car. The non-race car picture looks like a mopar axle maybe....with the drop in the center.

  14. What an incredible find. Somehow I know that the HAMB network will unearth the history of this car. Hot rod archeology at it's finest!;)

Precision auto, salt lake city, I knew a couple of the guys that ran a 27 T then a dragster in Nothern Utah, I think Anderson finally got a phd in chemistry and was the NHRA fuel expert and Watkins was in the automotive-engineering at the AC in Logan.

The story I heard was they kept blowin the bottom end out of flat heads and finally were trading scrap iron for all the flat heads a junk dealer had as sponsorship, They would tear the flatheads apart and if they looked ok, paint it red and make 3 or 4 runs then pull the block and put it in the scrap pile to go back to the junk yard.

    Thanks for the information!

  22. Awesome...PowerBall is $203million, that ought to be enough for an Ardun or two!
