I decided not to sell my 1951 olds and to just drive it. I am going to the registry tomorrow but can't figure out what the 9th digit on my vin is. anyone think this will be a problem? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That's the title I have for the car, I am getting the car to my house tomorrow and will check the door tag then. A few people have said it could be because it is a 8 digit vin. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
likely a problem, but could be resolved if you contact the agency that printed the title. Certainly a typographical error on their part. They should have copies, or images, of the original application and should be able to correct the mistake.
Hopefully it's not an issue, Mass RMV's suck! And it's from NC. The car has the original 303 as far as I know and can tell. If it is a 8 digit only car then what are the rest of the numbers? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
From reading my Motor manual, what that is on your title is not anything like a 1951 Oldsmobile serial number. The first serial number for 88A is 517-1001; 88 - 518-1001 and 98 - 519-1001. Yours has 17 digits, which, I assure you, is incorrect for the year. Hopefully, it is an assigned VIN (which is different than a serial number), and matches something on the car. Good luck, Cosmo P.S. Engine numbers all start (in 1951) with 8C-1001 and go up from there.
Even with an assigned vin I have never seen a "@" symbol on a vin. I'm getting worried now. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
As Cosmo pointed out, that has to be a reassigned VIN number. It the number on the title located on the car anywhere ?
I guarantee if it is an issue then it will take HOURS to resolve. I always seem to be in that place for a minimum of three hours. Don't know what it is, but it seems the DMV and Post Office always has people who don't know how to deal with things.
That is the body tag. VIN tag should be on left a pillar .My 49 Olds is in the vent window area of the door post.
in tn if you have an old title that has 1 or 2 numbers that cant be read you can take a piece of paper & make a rubbing of the vin tag . show it when you get your tags & apply for your title. DMV will staple it to your old title and when you get your new title everything will be right
That is a state assigned VIN. There should be a corresponding decal with the same number on the car. As someone mentioned, that '@' sign probably should be a '2'.
Perhaps the @ is a separator used in the state's assigned number; what follows is the year and body style. Sounds like the state assigns 17 digits to conform to the present system.
I posted this on here and Facebook right around the same time before I had an exact answer, seems to all make sense now. My insurance company is going to get me plates 1st thing in the am and I'm doing my oil change, coolant flush...ext now on the old girl. Hopefully I can go for a ride tomorrow night if all goes well....it never does but wishful thinking never hurts. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
