Given the new direction on the HAMB, I'm curious about my own project. Would this classify as a Hot Rod or a Custom? Or does it belong in the "general discussion" lump of stuff that's cool, but not necessarily either/or? Cast yer vote.

    '54 hartop
    327, mild cam, fuelie heads
    frenched antennas
    shaved handles
    Shaved trim
    frenched oldsmobile tail lights
no hood (for the time being)
lowered but with a bit of a rake

    So what be it?

I think you used the words frenched and shaved too many times not to be a custom! That and the wide whites...but I can see a little hot rod poking through there too! Im in a similar boat right now but I know my final vision for the build is all hot rod! In all actuality my build will likely be axed from here for a while but it'll be back when funds allow!

Definitely a custom, thanks to all that bodywork. But with a 327 it ought to get down the road pretty well.

  5. Rad. More hot rod than custom to me due to the killer stance.

  6. Its not a Kustom, its a customized hot rod ....

it's a custom with a detailed engine and compartment. nice car.

  10. No one says that a custom can't be fast! ;)

I would certainly put that in the custom category.

But, this here's America, and it's your car, I would be comfortable with whichever label you prefer. :)

    A very nice Custom too.

    VR&C.

  13. Don't understand the no hood deal. With out it, I consider it a hot rod, with it and all the small custom touches, a custom.

Our only recourse on this road to hell is we're driving a firetruck!

the no hood doesn't make it a Hot Rod - It makes it a mild custom without the hood.

now put the freakin hood back on :D

Yep. Two-dr. hardtops hardly qualify as 'hot rods'. Coupes and tudors are more 'hot rod businesslike' with their 'B' pillars, or 'posts'.

Those whitewalls and chrome wheels look like Pat Boone in white sox and white bucks...

  21. Pity the person that shaves and frenches a hot rod .... you crossed the line mister! ..... not that there is anything wrong with that.

  22. Tis whatever YOU want it to be! Who cares what anyone else tinks...but thats just what I tink....hahahaha....

  23. I shaved and frenched a hottie....does that mean I crossed the line...the Redline????hahahaha....

  24. Id call it time to get the hood back on and finely get her out of the driveway Brady. I vote mild custom also.

I say mild custom...but it needs the hood back on, perhaps with louvers on it?

Interesting to see the responses.... The hoods off because it needs some body work still and I want to drive it NOW. Hood will eventually go back on, but I'm in no rush. This car wasn't built with a specific vision. I bought it in 1990 as a project and its gone through many "versions". Now, I'm kinda digging the hot rod tones.... Mild custom sounds about right to me... When the hood goes back on it will be louvered, the back end will come down and 4 g78s will go on it to make it a proper custom.

  27. Not trying to make waves but I think the car is confused,,don't know whether it's a hot rod or a custom,,it's some of both.

    Customs have hoods don't they?

How do you classify your car,,I'm guessing a custom hot rod! :D HRP

Custom for sure, and I agree about putting the hood on with lots of louvers. If you had a firebreathing engine in there with lots of carbs it might be on the edge of being a hot rod, but with the one you have it is just a custom with a warmed up mill and a single four barrel carb.
