In 1977 (I was 14) I went in with a buddy and we bought a '67 SS Camaro for $600. As it was only 10 years old it was near perfect with black guts and a 4 speed. Sold it to my neighbor right after we bought it who was a few years older than we were and he immediately cut the floor out, tubbed it, and basically ruined it. I can still remember going over to his house to look at his "race car progress" and wondering what the hell had I done!

At 14 my great uncle gave me a '67 bug with bad rust and a good engine. My Dad's cousin gave me a OK '63 bug with a sucked valve. My mom gave me a set of craftsman sockets and wrenches. Three bodies and two engines later I terminally crunched the franken bug on a huge snow berm.

1940 Ford deluxe coupe. 8BA, 39 tranny and straight pipes. Gave $75.00 for it. Blew the engine and sold it where it stopped---I was gonna find another coupe. That was 1959. I'm on my 5th 40 and just the one coupe. Youthful optimism.

    Unfortunately I don't have a picture, but it was a 1949 Ford F-1 at age 14 for $75.

'56 Chevs seem to be a popular first car, judging by the replies.

Mine was a '56 210 4-door sedan that I bought for $1100 in the late seventies. Drove it for a few years until I moved to the western U.S.

This was technically my first car... though I never got to drive it. My Dad bought it for me when I was about 11 or 12... I think he only paid $200 for it. By the time I was old enough to drive some things had changed. I ended up 'trading' it back to my Dad for a 4x4 mini truck. I have great memories in that truck but I still regret the fact that I let the '55 go.

'47 business coupe, had a smoking engine, rear main leaking on the clutch.
found a '53 engine with a pressured crank. Had it rebuilt, put a full race Iski cam, did some head cleaning. Dual intake, "heavy duty" clutch. and other goodies. Ran at Loins, Saugas, and San Fernando. Later traded it for a '54 ford coupe.

My first car was a 1980 Ford Escort 4-door. The Euro one, not the horrible North American one. Doesn't quite fit the trend of other peoples first cars on here but hey, it was cheap, old and a riot to drive...

    1954 cheve 4 door 150.
It smoked bad, was painted with a paint brush two tone watermelon red on top and peach cream on bottom.
But got it for $50 bucks and dad said that was a steel.
    1968 was the year.
Stripped it down and repainted it British racing green.
Black interior and rebnuilt the engine.
It was stolen in 1969 and I never got anything back from it.

Mine was a black & white '52 Ford Victoria. I bought it at a Mercury dealership that was on the block I lived on. I paid $300 for it in 1960.

In 1960,I bought a 1952 Ford 2 dr Customline for $125. The good news -it had a 255 inch Mercury engine-the bad news it was a Fordomatic. My father drove it daily before I got my license. I then got a 1940 Ford 2 door with a Sears rebuilt engine and was going to put a 265 Chevy in it, but my father let me buy a 1957 Chevy 2dr hardtop and I sold him the 2 fords. My mother drove the 52 for several more years. It was a great car but was the slowest car I ever owned !

  27. My first was a 1956 Ford Fairlane 2 door. My dad bought it for me and my sister to drive to school. Paid $450 for it. After high school I drove it to college then for a while when I was in service stationed stateside before selling it to my cousin when I got papers to ship out. I loved that car. I put bucket seats and a floor shift in it. Was going to put a 390/4speed in it but sold it thinking I might not come back.

'62 Belair Bubbletop at 15yrs old. 283, three on the tree, Roman Red. Started my obsession with X-frames and especially '62s. Won't say what I paid, it'd just make it that much more unbelievable.
