Have this NOS piece and trying to find out what it is for. The original box came from a Chevy-Olds dealer. The numbers are all missing from the box and the only number is on the back of the molding, 4440312 as in the last picture. This is 59 3/4" long and think it goes under a trunk lid, on a wagon tail gate or ? The number shows up no where and we think it is part of a package with another number that had the nuts and other mounting items with it. Both ends have cutouts as in picture 2. Your thoughts on it.
Some of the 57 chevies had a piece similar to this under the the trunk lid and above the splash pan,,,,,,,just a guess I believe they were the top of the line Belairs
zboo2 Look in classified section of HAMB,,,,57 gold chevy ,,rear picture ,has this piece under trunk lid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have several 57 Chevy's, and that piece is not 57 Chevy. The piece for 57 is the same design as the side panel on Bel Airs, and the bottom corners are the same as the bottom edge of the trunk.
This has to be across the back of something. The speed nuts could never be gotten to if it was a rocker molding. I've looked at most all 60's GM car pictures I could find and absolutely nothing.
That part number is stamped, not cast in like the factory would do it. If I were to guess, I would say threshold out of a custom van.
WRM, that's it. I measured the distance across a Tempest and Chevelle wagon tailgate and am positive it goes on an "A" body GM wagon. PM your address and I'll buy you a beer or 2.
