The Fiat coupe that made him famous.

No caption, but this is obviously Ollie Morris "Smok'n White Owl," maybe at '55 Nationals at Great Bend, KS?

Mickey Thompson, probably also at Great Bend

Ed Losinski (sp?), maybe with Harry Duncan's engine?

Gotta love this one, Buddy Anderson, "just 19 years old"

Not in motion, but clearly a winner

Great shot! Taking out all of the lights. Circa 1980 I was driving the last Ramchargers FED at Detroit Dragway on a very foggy Saturday Night, maybe 150 ft visibility at most. I was so close to the lights that they moved and they had to be readjusted. I told the track officials I was glad I didn't hit them. They said you bet, there is a solid piece of steel imbedded in the track holding them in place! Lesson was learned that day. Know the track from fire up through turnout before strapping in....

Adkins and Hardcastel were the owners and Gary Henderson was the driver. Car ran open 8 car funny car shows. Guys would sometime pour flammable liquid over the slicks and ignite them for "effect."

Looks like a match race between Jack Ditmars and Jim Lutz at Minnesota Dragways in about 1964.

I searched this thread but didn't notice this pic of Ditmars' Lil' Screamer launching all four off the ground:

  19. I think you mean Gary Southern was the driver. Gary hung around Bud's Muffler in West Covina. One crazy SOB!

Cracker head, glad you liked them, there were almost no captions on the original set, so I provided them from memory, so standing by for corrections...

Gary was indeed one crazy SOB! He took over the wheel of Panic after I had to bail out, saw him drive it at OCIR, sideways each run, never lifted...almost got his license suspended...short guy with crooked teeth, funny as hell!

Hello all. Newbie here. Just got to page 175 of this awesome thread so I am 1/10 through.Thought I would come post these pics of my dads 1962 Corvette. It held several NHRA records in the late 60s . The cars best times were in the 9.70s. I was born in 63 and remember riding in the car through the pits. What a thrill for a kid. Back then Tripp Shumake drove the car quite a bit. Some may know him from driving the Lopers funny car, Pisano funny car, and he drove for Billy Meyer. Unfortunately we lost Tripp a few years back to a driver that crossed the median here in Phoenix and hit him on his motorcycle. He was one of the great ones and is missed. The car ended up crashing in 1970 with Ken Fulcher driving. Opponent came across the centerline and pushed him into the dirt and the car tumbled at high speed. The car was destroyed but Ken had minor injuries. A testament to how my dad built the cage. Back in the day they didn't think about saving this stuff and he threw everything away that was not usable! About a year ago someone came into the shop http://www.chucksspeedcenter.com/ and said he knew a guy that had picked up a piece of the figerglass and took it home. He was supposed to come back and never did. All he said was the guy is in a wheelchair. If anyone has info on that my dad would love to obtain that part. My dad was always into the suspension and getting the car to hook up. Motor was just a crate 427 square port motor with tunnel ram. Nothing special.

This picture is the first day the car was out at Beeline. Class record was 10:86. Off the trailer the car went 10:70s and 10:80s breaking the record in its first passes. By the end if the day the last two runs were 10:36 back to back.
