  8. Oh, I bombed up and down Devils Peak in Morten's A about 10 years ago now at the A-bombers. What a time, never forget! I miss all my Swedish buddies.

    Great shot, great car!

  15. It was an early plan. I had talked to Hakan and told him I was going to come. But we had to bail this year. We thought we had a sponsor to help pay for the build of a car and help ship it. Hopefully someday.

Does anyone know more on the history of this?
I was just talking to my buddy about this the other day.
Im building my roadster in the immediate post war 40's style, and I want it to have sort of a mild 40's custom street driven rod look.
Ive seen pics of 40's cars with bobbed fenders and motorcycle fenders. I was planning to run without fenders, but just curious. Trying to keep my car real period correct..

When did the fender laws in SoCal go into effect/end?

  20. Ollin,

Don Montgomery's Hot Rods of the Forties shows tons of examples of immediate postwar cars (in SoCal) without fenders...I'd say you're safe without 'em.

I have always been told/believed that the 1500 pound fender law of 1951 was the first for CA. It was pretty rigidly enforced through the sixties, but enforcement seems pretty lax these days.

After watching plenty of movies and newsreels, including "the Hot Rod Story" by Alex Xydias, it seems that fenderless was pretty much the rule of the day in SoCal in the '40s. I can remember Xydias specifically saying something to the effect that California's climate allowed them to get away with open wheel cars year round in the early days.

I'm sure that there was a lack of laws, or enforcement, coupled with common sense that kept the CHP from pulling over every fenderless Hop-Up on a clear-blue-22 day back in the '40s...

  23. Are those dual coils on the firewall?

I've finally got back to working on my roadster over the last few months. A ton still left to do, but its finally starting to look like something resembling a car . My buddy pat says i should call it
    "the can 'o worms"
