I read a lot more than I post, but I embrace the thought that finding the traditional stuff I came here for might be easier to find. Change is inevitable, and Ryan is right to do it as he sees fit. If someone wants something different, then they can do the work he has to create their own portion of the interweb as they see fit. Viva la HAMB! Rock on Jalopy Journal.

Its funny, I started the thread "modern photos of nostalgia race cars" as a backhand against all the guys that were cluttering up Skips race car thread with modern stuff. Of all the threads I started, its the most popular, and when I started it, it was a bit of a "tongue in cheek" cheap shot. Go figure.:p:rolleyes:

Ryan, are glass bodies equivalent to aftermarket deuce chassis?

  9. Even though I have been an offender to the rules once in a while - I am glad they are going to be tightened up and enforced with a heavy hand. It is after all what this was supposed to be about. I may not agree with 100% of what has been mentioned, but that's OK, it's not my board, I can deal with it.

I applaud you for taking this stance Sir.

(I like that you are being open minded about Electronic Ignitions with your "Whos Knows" comment, since we kind of specialize in that here at work and it is a common topic here, not to mention what Bubba does as well)

Now just keep an open mind about those Anglia's and other Gassers built to the proper Era :D (personally Good Riddance to the Street freaks from this place)

    Let the Casualties begin.

Is it period perfect? My new found hard assness is going to find its way to the HAMB Drags as well. :)

No. I'm fine with traditionally built aftermarket chassis...

It will be hard, but I will learn to live without all the great tech on building traditional '72 Dodge Monaco fenderless gassers.
More focus will be good. Dilution is bad in a community like this.

Can't help but feel an awful lot of the best builds will disappear, genuinely traditional builds are few and far between even on here despite what people seem to think

  15. Yes sir,it is amazing how the Hamb has had such a global impact on traditional hot rods & customs and we are fortunate enough to be a small part of it.

I moderate the '54 Ford Club of America and with a small number of members and a single focus of one year only it still takes a lot of time to keep it all working.

Refocusing is paramount to survival! HRP

  16. I'm glad change is coming! long time waiting. too much bickering about stoopid shit if you ask me. cant wait
thanks for the site Ryan and all moderators

Your definition of "traditional" might differ from ours. That's fine. However, this is our forum and it's our definition that the forum is run off of.

I will be first to admit that before I turned on to the HAMB in 05 a couple of years before I joined, that I was in the mind set of just build what you want with whatever you've got. I used to think wow what a bunch of assholes. But the more I read on the HAMB about the history and tradition of building hot rods I began to understand why guys were "assholes" when I'd post something a little off topic. Over the years I learned what made a car "right" was attention to details and the right parts from the right era put together made a car that made sense rather than a car with parts from different eras that didn't look just right. I agree that the water has become a bit muddy and there are fewer of the "assholes" to set someone right. Now I don't know that a FNG can come in and be set straight with the amount of OT posts. I applaud you Ryan in the effort to narrow the focus once again and I look forward to being one of those "assholes".

That is my concern too. If you take the amount of cars being built that are traditional in the strictest sense of the word, vs those that have the essence of what traditional cars were, the ratio is very much in favor of the latter. Almost every car I see on here has SOME difference from what would have been used in 1950, some subtle some not so subtle.

I think it is important to remember too that a lot of the people who are the most knowledgeable contributors to the threads on the HAMB do not particularly own or build their cars to those standards, yet they provide a very valuable service here. Without their expertise and experience a lot of threads would not be as factual or informative as they are. The members are what make this forum what it is.

It is like we have discussed on here so many times, guys who "were not there back in the day" seem to have this distorted opinion that all the cars being built were clones and that technology was stagnant. The truth is, cars were continually advancing and being changed as new products and techniques became available. But that has always been the problem, the young guys think they know it all because they read a few magazines or saw a few movies.

    Present company excepted, of course.:)

Well, since you didn't lock it, let me say thanks. I think your initial guidance was pretty clear and with the clarifications to some questions, it now seems crystal clear. Anybody who still doesn't get it probably doesn't want to get it. Looking forward to the results.

I guess the question "is a SBC traditional?" will finally be answered.

It gives me a headache coming back and reading all of these questions.
Ryan, you are right, this should have been a 'closed' thread.

If you guys are so worried about what is going to be accepted, or not, why don't you just wait until Ryan rolls out the changes?

It seems like people are worried about what they are building will be accepted here.
Really, it should not matter one bit. Build what you want, move on, and enjoy life.
It absolutely doesn't have to fit the Traditional guidelines of the HAMB.

Okay, I have one question for Ryan and it's a biggie for me and maybe for some of Hambland's cognoscenti too:

"4. We cover traditional '65 and older American cars only."

What happens to what to me, and apparently many others, are some of the finest historical threads on the HAMB - several of which have been initiated by da Boss hisself. Threads on vintage European stuff such as Bugattis, Delage, Delahaye, Voisin, vintage Ferraris (and I plead the Dean Batchelor Amendment here;)), pre WWI streamliners from Auto Union and Mercedes, Specials, 1950s sports racers which cross pollenated into the hot rodding culture, pre WWII foreign Indy cars, foreign bodied concept and dream car histories? And what about those beautiful European artifacts such as Borannis, Nardi steering wheels which just look so stellar on the right hot rod? What about non American powered hot rods - Brian Burnett's Magoo built groundbreaking Deucari for example? Limey Steve's oh so traditional but British Daimler hemi powered Deuce? This to me is some of the most historically fascinating stuff on the HAMB - is it going to be summarily amputated without the slightest hint of anaesthetic or is it going to 'cut the mustard'?
