My dad bought the Merc that he has been after for the last 40+ years. It sat in a pole barn since 1966, we rescued it last summer. My dad has been working on the car replacing brakes and fuel tank & lines trying to get it ready for the road. I rebuilt the flathead and now it's finally all coming together...slowly ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1377485927.863404.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1377486120.315170.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1377486211.113545.jpg

These are from the day we got it home.

Right now we are leaving the patina, it earned it. We will make it shiny one day, just not anytime soon

The Auburn could be bought, I'm trying to get a price out of the owner. View attachment 2014982 ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1377487549.578798.jpg

It could be a beautiful car it's all there.

  13. That Auburn is beautiful.
Engine for the Merc looks mean...what kind of exhaust are you putting on it? Something loud and flashy? Or cool and smooth...

Here are a few more, I stuffed the flatty in yesterday. Now it's time to empty the trunk full of new stuff and put it together, hopefully we can make a few cruise ins this year ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1377538798.852888.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1377538830.705664.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1377538852.824302.jpg

The plan right now is to get it running and drive it like it is. The original seats are pretty nice, they were hiding under covers that were put on when it was new, under the rotten carpet was the most perfect floors in a merc that I have ever seen. My dad wanted to take it all apart and paint it as soon as we got it on the trailer, but I convinced him to leave it alone and just get it driving with its original running gear . That top matchbook looks like a Vargas painting, really cool!

Great thread, just proves that they are still out there waiting to be rescued, like your plans for the Merc

That is one awesome looking Merc, no way I would paint that car. Get it up and running and drive the wheels off it. :)...

  30. That car looks amazing! I would just drive it the way it is. I want a stock '49 so bad. I probably have to wait til I retire.
The motor is a thing of beauty!
