GM Borg Warner T10: Does Anybody Make Speed Parts For Them?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, Aug 23, 2013.

  1. I have an opportunity to snatch up a GM Borg Warner T10, circa 1962, and I was curious if anybody makes speed parts for them (i.e. stronger cases, gears, syncros, etc). Anybody know of anyone?

    Richmond still sells Super T-10's...

  3. What's the difference between a Super T-10 and a T-10?

    I use Liberty parts.

  7. Here's another question; which one is stronger: the cast iron case or the Super T-10 aluminum case?

Chevrolet invented the T10 by adding a 4th gear to a BW 3 speed transmission. If the transmission is a 62, there might be a bowtie cast into the case. The cast iron cases are stronger than the aluminum cases. They made the aluminum case to save weight. The Super T10 did not show up until the late 60s. AMC was the first to use the ST10.

  9. Excellent information. Thank you.

What are your plans for T10? It still my not hold up

  11. 454 with a Weiand CR1985 Tunnel Ram and dual Holley 1849's. I wanted a M22, but I found a T10 locally for $200. I couldn't pass that up. The car might see some track time, but it will not be a dedicated track car. I just want something fun for the weekends.

That engine really sounds like it will need either an M22 or one of the big Tremecs.

Great thread, I got a t-10 in my 63 Catalina.

  14. My ultimate plan is for a M22, but I need this T10 to hold up until I can purchase one. It actually doesn't cost that much to upgrade a T10.

I've got $600 total in my complete 454, T10, dual Holley 1849's, and Weiand Tunnel Ram top. I'm building my car on a shoe-string budget.

I have had and will again have a T-10 that has always been checked from time to time, mainly to keep the input tight to the cluster and it has held up with a 66 el camino and it ain't light either with a 9 inch slick. That is with many 396 and a few 427 motors none that fast big one did run in the mid to high 12's so tighten it up and run it

If you are on a shoe-string budget, use the T-10 as it is, just take it easy on it. Put that T-10 money towards the Muncie.

  21. I'm starting to see a modified T10 as a poor man's M22. They're way cheaper to find parts for. Swap the case to cast iron, and you increase the strength 50-60%. Use a 2.43:1 gear cluster, and they're stout enough to use behind a 455 Pontiac. That's not bad in my opinion.

Use what you've got; make what you need. :D

Get a broken Muncie cheap. buy Auto-Gears for around $800 and you have a improved M-22.

You have the right idea. Use the $200 T10. There are plenty of T10s and Muncies in the $200-500. You could go through a few of them and it will still cost less than trying to upgrade to a transmission that you might never need. I don't know how Pontiacs always get dragged into it. The Pontiac SD cars used the Chevy transmission LOL, the one with the bowtie cast into the case until the Muncie came out. Chevy was the first one to use the M22. I read an article that said the iron case T10 was 75% stronger than the aluminum case T10. Most of it sounds like a sales pitch, use what you have and worry about it later. I won't be looking for any kind of aluminum case 4 speed unless the price is right, I have seen too many broken ears on the main case.

  25. My thoughts exactly. Well said man. :D
